This is great.. Although they didnt mention update rate.. So its only 60hz? I am so glad I bought a OLED as my main monitor (LG 48" CX). The 42" sounds interesting. However I hope LG will come out with an 40"ish curved ultra wide (3840x1600) that can do atleast 120hz. (dont need more, but will take it if it comes). The 48" is a bit big.. The problem is mostly the height (thats why a ultra wide would be better) and the corners can be a little far away (thats why curved and a little smaller). Curved monitors however take more space on the desk (z axis - depth). So maybe not curved. Anyways. I dont regret going for the 48" CX. This is simply just amazing. I can never go back to LCD technology with that backlight issues (clouding etc). And the response time is just out of this world like the black levels. What I hate the most is I have to manually shut it down.

Some extra details from display specifications > My thoughts are the same as others: why is HDMI 2.1 (full) been omitted from this display, if, it is intended for the professional market? The quality of this panel is in no doubt for image reproduction and the options for getting the color space you are targeting...but...this has always been the case! I got an old 2005 BenQ monitor somewhere, that has options for Adobe RGB, sRGB, paper, color temperature and so on. No biggie and of no question that if working to 'w/e' standard, I'm sure this monitor will deliver...but...y'know. This monitor fails before it has even left the gate. With no HDMI 2.1, you lose everything that makes modern monitors modern. If you have ever had to scroll through umpteen emails, or, read through code in VS, or even online interaction with text, images, understand it, collate the info, cut and paste from multiple disparate sources - you will know that 120+Hz is way way way easier on the eyes. So - the last a professional would want is a monitor that does not have an HDMI standard from 2017. Then you got the games industry and working with game engines, sometimes looking at the same scene/level/map for hours on end in multiple aspect ratios, wireframe viewing modes etc, with pixel-perfect-precision and, required/needed level of attention being very high - NOT having 120+Hz is painful. Apologies for cross-posting (partially) my point in another thread, but the only container of liquid next to my monitor is Optrex Soothing Eye Drops (which are a god-send btw, highly recommended 😎) and not anything else - but the reason is because your eyes are very important and you should take care of them. As an aside, in my country it is the law to have your employer pay for an eye check up once every two years, if you use monitors or displays - check link for details. In other words:- I cannot think of a fate more undeserving of a human being, than sitting them down in front of a 30+inch monitor that does not have 120+Hz, for 8+ hours a day, and requiring intense scrutiny by the user. IF you are doing color critical work, there are better options. The post made earlier about using a OLED tv is actually a very good idea, but, only at a distance - and with 120Hz+ refresh. I'm waiting for this monitor: https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ProArt-Display-PA32UCG/ And when I get it, I'll take some photos and let you know if it's awesome or not. I'll be real about it gurus, if it sucks, I will send it back and I think those of you who know me best will know that I won't blindly defend it in any way if it sucks. I got too much respect for yous...unlike LG

I hope they can come out with a 40". 4k really benefits from larger screens.

Yeah, but I do not have a 5ft + deskspace in front of me to make use of it

Well luckily manufactors dont need to limit their product line after what you have. So we others dont need to be limited by your setup :-P Also.. I have a 48" CX in front of me. Its more like a wall of display like you see from futuristic movies. I mostly use the center portion of the display for like this browser window fx.. But when gaming I use all the width of the display so that it fills my entire peripheral view.. Its unique and something I would say to all to try at one point. Sure its a lot of GPU power to use for the corner of your eye that cant disect those details anyway, but its an experience. So immersive.

Um, I was replying to someone else and was referring to myself not having a use for something that is that size of desk in it's required distance between eyeball and screen - with a 40inch desktop monitor, you need to have 5ft+ of desk in front of you.

Sure you were replying to someone else. So what? I commented on your comment. If its not for us to hear, then why write it public? If the message is only a note for your self why "say" it outloud? And no. You dont need to have 5ft. There are no laws in says so. I have about 80cm (that is 2.6ft for you) to my 48". Its not problem. I cannot disect the individual pixels. As said. Its like your wall becomes a monitor. The stuff you need to focus on says in the middle. Messenger/spotify/etc goes to the edges as you dont need to focus on that stuff. Its immersive. Most of the time I will only use the center portion of the screen. Like a regular 30" screen and only use all of the display at once for gaming. The great thing is that you can choose any virtual monitor size. Its up to you. Also no need to pivot a monitor. As you can just use the center portion in full height. Etc. Sure you cannot use all of the monitor in your macular vision at that size from that distance. For that you need to sit 5ft away (I havnt calculatored it), but you dont need to. I have always had 2x monitors fx.. and that setup will also never be within your macular vision. This is the same, just better, bigger and more ergonomical... and you can use the whole screen for gaming instead of only one of them etc.

You dont need 5' desk space, because large displays are not put on desktops, but rather wall mounted just above them. This obviously gives me more usable desktop space than a normal small monitor on a desk would provide.

Yes there are. https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/l26.pdf IF the employee made requests to alter the working environment, making the usage of a display more comfortable, the employer must acquiesce. The BSI number relates to this: "BS 3044:1990" if you want to look into the granular of office furniture standards which are stapled to the law, go ahead sir. Black and white. Employers have to make desks bigger if you need a big monitor, and 40" screen in less than five feet away, at less than 120Hz would be vomit-inducing for the member of staff, against the law, and can be land you in an employment tribunal. They would be driving your car home from the courthouse, sir.

Needs are defined from the employer NOT employee. You must educate yourself about how you get to not become unemployed by extraordinary illegal demands. PS. Governments and their employees are not real legitimate working force, so they cannot decide for private section and its tactics.

Wrong. "I do not feel comfortable at my desk using this monitor because it is too close to my eyes - please adapt my working environment" "NO - itpro says I do not have to!" "I want your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle" [insert extended action sequence, involving flying doves in slo-mo, endless 9mm magazines, bodies sliding across the floor and a small child holding an ice cream, looking on in wonder at the explosions and of course, 80's power rock ballards] HARD CUT TO: EXT. COURTHOUSE - DAY itpro sits in comfort, laughing at the company for believing every word he wrote, munching on pop-corn A CAR screams past, with the occupants being the staff from THE COMPANY with whom now, are exiting the COURTHOUSE, as they look at the winners of the court case. "That's...that's my car!" CUT TO: EXTENDED TITLE SEQUENCE FADE TO WHITE

Exciting until you realise the 48" is more expensive than the 55" BX and CX. £1200-1300 for a 42" TV is insane but people will pay it.
It's not insane when OLED is so far ahead in image quality.
itpro:

Good thing is that it doesn't burn in. 🙄
It probably will in a desktop scenario over a few years but who cares, I'll just buy another one. Better than buying a $3500 screen now with blooming, terrible contrast and a fan in it.

For me it's either VA-QLED or Micro-Led when time is ripe. I have realistic and educated expectations without self-destruction surges.

If you could give me either one of those technologies now, with a flawless monitor for a cheap price, sure I'd buy it. ATM Samsung's VA is the closest but their monitors have tons of issues and MicroLED is minimum years away. I have 2017 65" LG OLED now that I game on fairly regularly and I don't have burn in. Presumably image retention has gotten better since 2017, so I'd assume a 2021 screen would have far less issues. If I can get an OLED at a reasonable size that lasts me 3 years of gaming before it burns in that would be fine for me. I'd spend up to $1500 on that.

No it's insane that the 42" is likely to be more expensive than a 55". Yes I now why. It's still insane from a consumers perspective.
