Implying AMD need's to have TR delided , in order to work w/o overheating once you even try to OC ๐Ÿ™

it's nice to see no one is taking all this too seriously.(?)

um am i reading this right....someone actually said because you can delid an intel makes it better?

Lame response by Intel. I'm betting the percentage of Intel 8086k winners who are eligible to swap them, and swap them for 1950X's, will be very close to 100%. It's too funny--Intel's always coming in from behind these days, it seems. (After sitting on their considerable rear-end for the last decade or so, it's no wonder!)

Ha, it's funny, good on them for coming out with the comment, the AMD 'exchange' offer was a kick in the balls for Intel so this puts a different & funny spin on it. In the scheme of things AMD's exchange offer & Intel's response are not really important, what matters is what people will buy, and this little butting of heads won't really change that, but it is fun for the enthusiasts to read!

Nice reply from intel. I can see that only a handful (probably why its only 40) would trade in the much faster for almost everything 8086k for the 1950x. Everyone else will be more than likely be very happy to have won the fastest gaming CPU on the planet. The Threadripper might be decent at multithreaded performance but its not a good gaming CPU.

______________________________________________________________________ Compared to the AMD reply this is a bit kindergarden ish, instead of saying: you could have just said so, they could have acted a bit more, maybe show prof that they have send a CPU to AMD or something a bit more then just writing a reply like this. I could be biased but i would mail AMD and run as fast as my bad cardio would let me, down to the nearest post office with a 8086k if i had one. After all it is nothing special compared to the 1950xยดs quad memory, PCI lanes, over double the cores, almost the same cooling requirement (without delid) and socket compatibility with the new beast that is coming in the future. Besides you could trade the 1950X for a super binned silicon lottery 8700k chip (same as the 8086k) and have money left over if you wanted.

nor is it good for Lightroom. Really depends on the use case and how knowledgeable the owners are. I don't think anyone will swap them. If you already decided to get the 8086k while the TR was out, why would you reconsider afterwards?

As mentioned in the original AMD article, the swap offer is only for those who won Intel's 8086K contest, not regular customers. These people would likely have no firm plans for the CPU they won, and considering that the 1950X is a far more valuable product, I'm sure many will be happy to make the trade. Win a 8086K, trade for a 1950X, sell for $800 and buy a 1080 Ti.

I expected that Intel will just post Threadrippers gaming benchmarks score and show that is not upgrade and that Threadripper is not gaming processor at al.. AMD should make about i dunno video editing or 7zip performance or something where is Threadripper really better.. maybe some AMD sponsored games, Ashes of "Nobody want to play this" Singularity.. etc..

You are right. Fortunately, companies are not butthurt about it. So it's just a healthy laugh.

Actually this is so nice to see! Even back and forth "trash" talk from intel and amd nice to see competition on the cpu world ...now i hope we see such thing in 2h 2018 and 2019 on gpu's too!

Theres no point in deliding the Threadrippers or the larger Ryzen CPU's since deliding yields near no benefit so i am not sure what you are going on about???? Soldering will last way longer that voiding your warranty and replacing the TIM which is phsical damage that can be checked than being soldered and working at peak efficiency to well beyond it's expected life. Sam for the Ryzen APU's they are clock limited not heat limited so even deliding them is near useless, except bring the temps down and allow air cooling to run cooler.
No point, but the claim they don't work anymore after doing so is irrefutably false.

Fox2232:

Well, joke is on AMD there. Because while delid of intel's chip voids warranty, it still works afterwards, while AMD's chip is dead.
Point being you don't NEED to delid an AMD CPU, everything apart from the Vega APUs is soldered... And even then their TIM is better than intels...

/j Joke thread about jokes, full of jokes, and one must make clear notion that he is making jokes. And I guess, some want to take it to the end. "Nothing spoils a joke worse than when you have to explain the bloody punchline."

AMD's idea was a big trolling. Intel's response is childish.

Both their PR teams did a good job here. People are talking about it. Everything else doesn't make a difference, it's just coverage, and they got it. Well played, AMD and Intel PR departments ๐Ÿ˜‰

Except comments on twitter and here indicate that AMD is getting +++ points, while intel gets --+. Exchange is funny, but intel does not get a lot of positive points.
