I'll believe it when I see it.

Apparently 1/100 guesses coming true means you're credible, even if 99% of the time you're full of shit.

who the hell is tom
Exactly my though, followed by "WTF wrote this article?" quotes without citation... fancy stories about conspiracy and intrigues between chip designer and foundry...

Yea, even why the author didn't cite the source 🙂

Welcome to the postmodern journalism where deontology is a thing of the past and have been finally supplanted by "entertainment shaped reality" you can tune on AdoredTV, Coretek, Graphically Challenged, Gamermeld(if I remember) and many others if you want more 😉

Well do it already... we have an emergency going on since 2000 series launch.

TSMC is about to rule the entire planet like Google. It's a little bit scary but deserved.

Disgusting that Apple, richer and bigger than Intel and TSMC combined, continues to hog excessive fab space instead of establishing their own fabs.
The Cupertino giant has reportedly already secured 50% of TSMC's 5nm production capacity by 2021
Not only are they harming other more important industries (automotive, aerospace, medical, etc) for the sake of their vanity phones, they're jacking up prices for everyone else by out-bidding them for fab space.

All these companies are expanding their fabs.. If Apple was to decide right now they wanted to fabricate their own chips, it would take them nearly a decade before they were able to do so at a competitive Level.

Well... if you want to be more acurate, exept Intel and Samsung no one can do it by itself... And you touch the deeper problem: All company have delegated the making of their own production (for many reason: infrastructure, cost, technologic performance...) to "partner" and can't do it's own production. Europe and USA have realised this the hard was with the global shortage and both have started to make factory on it's own ground... but it take a long time to make those factories...

If they decided to fab their own chips they would just buy TSMC and lock everyone else out of the game...:p

I disagree. Apple has a fab right now in South San Jose, CA. AFAIK, it is used primarily for R&D but it could do real production in fairly short order. The only issue it would have is volume. The thing is they don't need to do production there at a competitive level.

Well, if this isn't one, I don't know. Floods, water shortages, massive shipping lane issues etc etc. Shall we wait until a meteor hits the earth and kills 90% of the population, demand would have decreased significantly though. lol
Don't underestimate a guy's willingness to get a new GPU. The scenario you described, it could become even worse.

Intel HPG will be made using TSMC N6 process. If Intel had enough 10SF capacity, they would use it instead of TSMC.
