Pretty much every generation of processor from Intel requires a new board, no different really it keeps their chipset production going.

Way I see it, for general pc use people don't need much more than an old CoreDuo processor 🙁 Email, web browsing, etc. And as software becomes 64-bit multithreaded, even the ancient Q6600 will still be relevant. PC sales are dropping because there really isn't anything new to do, games are getting more realistic... but that's about it. Since console games are now being developed for 8 thread, low clocked AMD chips... my 8350 looks beastly in comparison, why upgrade at all?

HW-E only coming with 6 or 8 cores, Intel is axing 4 core version
6 core should be @ price 4820 is currently
8 core should be @ price 4930k is roughly

Still kicking it with an FX-60 and 9800GTX+. Though I am in the process of building the replacement. I was interested in upgrading the haswell to broadwell if the numbers they talking about were real. Now that's not going to happen. Figures. Guess this ITX will last 8-10 years. LoL

You are seriously bottlenecking even the 9800 by using an old Athlon 64 chip. K8? Holy dinosaurs Batman.

Intel Xeon E5-2687W v2 Ivy Bridge-EP 3.4GHz 25MB L3 Cache LGA 2011 150W 8-Core Server Processor BX80635E52687V2, is what i expect but unlocked for $1k.
One thing that im wondering though, is when will the none E get six cores, seems broadwell will be same as haswell so still 4 cores, so maybe skylake... but i somewhat doubt it.
Something like Cyberdyne
Hm, 8/6 core CPU's becoming more of a thing for consumers possibly?
Nice, at least those with 4 core + HT CPU's should be able to benefit from games and programs as they become optimized for 8 cores.
Or in any case, as they start to effectively use more then 1-4 threads really.

since 1366 xeon there is not too much... i just get a 2011 build and from the old 1366 i get none extra and even some step back despite extra Mhz.
kind of technology stall (both AMD and Intel) since few year.
if i am right 6 core would be hard (mean impossible) on not E for now.
(and useless i think).
more like that -Tj-
Just stumbled upon this.. Main news was Broadwell will feature up to 18cores.

So anyway he said this very interesting thing, you can plug it into existing systems or on a new system, I presume Z97.

Maybe it Z87 will be compatible after all.. Well it better 🤓
