Gigabyte managers really have no clue what they are doing nowadays.... that is the reason why their product support quality dropped in the last few years (it was top-notch before) with all their motherboards BIOSes now plagued with the worst possible stability, compatibility and performance bugs.
So why did they go with a public press release for a product that they don't want to sell to everyone but just to OEM integrators for pre-assembled PCs ? (a press release that is absolutely unclear... they didn't write that it was going to be a limited release product just for OEM integrators)
Well then I hope ASUS and MSI and maybe others are going to release their own Mini GTX 970 cards just like they did with the GTX 760.

Surely if other manufacturers like Asus and MSI are going to release their own Mini GTX 970 there will be no issue. Just Gigabyte losing customers if they really wish so.

I would like to get this card as a christmas gift for a buddy. But it is not for sale on newegg yet. Is there any info when this will be available for purchase on newegg? I really need to secure one of these before christmas.

So... who is right and who is wrong? If indeed they are going to sell it retail as well, than maybe they saw the huge interest the people have in it and decided to make it available to everyone. We shall see soon enough.

so I will have to msg a company using these cards in their builds and buy it off them for a jacked up price is what ur saying? Well nevermind. Are there any other gtx 970's with 1x 8 pin power connection?
I'm struggling to find a card with 1x 8pin connector as when i type in google gtx 970 1x 8 pin pci-e it shows results with 1x 8 pin and 1x 6 pin grrrrr. His psu only has 1x 6 pin connector but its a 450 watt psu and it definitely can support the wattage so just gonna use a converter on it. It uses a 65 watt tdp ivy bridge cpu with no overclocking and a 512GB samsung 840 pro ssd for the only storage and 1.35 volt low power ram integrated sound and no optical 3x 140mm fans and really nothing else drawing power, so there is def enough watts left for a 145 tdp gpu with no overclocking so i don't think there will be any problem using a 6 to 8 pin startech converter.

If gigabyte can make a card with 1x 8 pin somebody else has to be able to do it too. It's only 145 tdp 75 watt from slot + 150 watt from 8 pin = 225 watt so that has to be plenty for a gtx 970 i know they make em 6 + 8 for extra OC headroom but some 1 else has to be able to do it!

OK I found it. Went on newegg and used the 360 view to physically view the power connectors of every 970 on there. Low and behold there is only 1 other card with 1x 8 pin connectors. Luckily it happens to be one of the best ones the super quiet asus strix with the massive 1x 10mm heatpipe and 2x8mm heatpipes. Of course it's one of the sold out ones but I'm on auto notify. I'm sure more will be stocked in time to make ti to me before xmas. Thanks anyways guys. I'm sure someone woulda told me if they knew. So if anyone needs a gtx 970 with just 1 pci-e power connector this is your only choice.

yea its coming out for retail. They dont make pretty boxes like that if its oem only. But I think the asus card will make less noise so its probably the better choice.

just an assumption as larger heatsink and larger heatpipes and more fans = slower rpms for same cooling level = lower noise.

Just ordered one from Amazon but says it's 2-3 weeks out. I was just in the market to build a higher end ITX gaming rig and this opens my case options by a huge factor.
My concern atm is if this card does perform as the larger version would...then how the heck did they really manage to make it this short? All I can find is they say the VRM circuitry isn't as elaborate nor is the cooling. ...oh well, so long as it's stable, I can find a way to draw it some more air but I bet it's a loud little bugger.
I hope this card sells well so others will want to make shorter length cards too...otherwise it makes choosing a SFF case such a limited chore and most of which are pretty ugly imo.

Would love to see a review of this card comparing the graphics, thermal, and acoustic performance of this card to the Asus strix gtx 970. I expect to the mini itx version of this card to perform slightly worse in all 3 categories but if it is only a minor loss it will be worth it. If you want a gtx 970 with only 1 pci-e power connector your only choices are this gigabyte card and the asus strix both of which have a single 8 pin.
I'm either buying this card or the asus 1 for my brother and the mini itx one would be nice as he plans to build a mini itx system in the coming years and could repurpose this but I'm worried it's single fan will have to spin at very high speeds to keep up with a large cooler like the asus plus the 0db no fan mode is nice as well.
Very annoying that not a single tech review site has put this card through it's paces yet. I searched thoroughly on google and no go.

Well it is obviously not going to be exactly identical to a full size card with a larger heatsink and more fans. It's just the laws of physics, not as much heat will be able to be moved. So the card has to sacrifice some aspects. Lower max clocks or faster fan speeds that create more noise or most likely a mixture of both.
The real question is how much is sacrificed compared to a full size card? Is it just a tiny bit of speed and a tiny bit of noise or is it a little more than a tiny bit and somewhat noticeable? We need some hard concrete numbers to see how big the sacrifices are on this card. I can't decide between this card and the asus strix until I get some hard numbers.
You would think tech review sites would be interested in reviewing the worlds fastest mini itx sized gpu.
