Driver is ok doing the job 🙂 call of duty bops 3 multi 😯k Efootball 2024 😯k The Callisto protocol 😯k Benches, Superposition and Novabench: a small lost of performance, like 2-3 fps in games, within the margin !!!

Maybe Nvidia is wanting to make a console that uses Linux like Valve's Steam Deck?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/251/251189.jpg
Would make a great console without a CPU.

That would be the opposite of what one would want from hiring an open source driver developer. It would also be completely uninteresting for Nvidia to pursue.

Nvidia makes the APU that powers the Switch so why couldn't they just scale that up? I don't think the tech would be an issue for Nvidia. I think the margins are the issue and while making insane margins on enterprise technologies why would they care more than just powering the Switch 2? I don't think they do. Leave the small margin sales to AMD I am sure is their attitude.

Red Dead 2 with these drivers. 1440p 60fps should be fully buffered by now. [youtube=bUkYmws299M]

It wouldn't be able to compete with x86 handhelds with ARM emulation. And even with native ARM apps it might look poor vs. Zen 4 if they used some in-house ARM design, so they'd need to license something. And a mere streaming handheld would be superflous AF too, you can instead just connect a BT controller to any smartphone or tablet instead.

And Cyberpunk results. Damn I love this GPU, it's a beast! [youtube=xcJuEXrvCFk]

Test RDR2 with DX12 instead. When RDR2 was released VK did perform better but since then VK in the game has seen little to no updates and fixes while DX12 has been very much improved.

I totally forgot about DX12. It's good, but Vulkan does a little better for me and the difference is very minor. [youtube=pkVFTH45MBA]

And it's still slower than Vulkan.

not for me, i get around 5-10 more average fps in DX12 compared to VK (VK is basically a tie with .1 lows, etc). At launch it was the other way around but the issue was VK crashed a lot but that has been fixed with driver updates.

Depends on your system really. It's not universally slower.

I guess it depends on the CPU. Slower CPUs seem to prefer Vulkan, at least on Nvidia. The ridiculous perf gap (~40%) between Vulkan and GL in Doom 4 almost disappeared when I went from i5 2500K to Ryzen 3700X. In RDR2, I get better perf with Vulkan, but apparently people with more modern/faster CPUs don't seem to.

I tested this across several CPUs and GPUs (well, not RDNA3 yet, at least not Vk vs. D3D12) and the result was always like in Macer's video above: DX12 slower and more stuttery.

My point was just that I doubt the ability to make a CPU is what's holding back Nvidia from wanting to be a major player in the console / handheld market. I think the much more likely explanation is that there isn't enough profit in it and while Nvidia is making money hand over fist supplying the ML boom it's unlikely that they are interested in entering the console / handheld market further than just supplying the chips for the Switch 2.

For Engines which were built with DX12 then it is fine but older engines had it patched in and those tended to have huge frametime issues These drivers are another great set, playing various games fine
