You need to be booting in pure UEFI mode, no CSM.

Are you certain? Did you somehow force it? Flight Simulator is not part of the list of games Nvidia has the support enabled.

Nop, it's a win10 pro install from 2015 that might have been reset once or twice. Well now it's converted to gpt at least, was less a big deal than i anticipated with the proper tool.

uefi set to csm can install an mbr bootable install to certain nvme drives produced by samsung and crucial.

again, not the norm. im just questioning ppl with hw knowledge, not doing a proper clean install with new board (hw/sw/settings etc).

it is the norm when a person puts a new nvme in a new system and the mainboard defaults result in a MBR on the NVME.

You typically expect the auto csm setting to default to UEFI, but this isn't the case when the nvme you're using has a legacy boot rom that enables MBR bootability, its caught numerous folks out.
