So the AM555 meme is dead 🙁 RIP futureproof potential, this seems like it will have the same faith as 300 series chipset. Fastly becoming obsolete
Futureproof? Did you just discover computers yesterday? There's no such thing as "futureproof" in computing.... Never has been, never will be. There is always something newer/faster/better coming.

intel got sloppy and amd got greedy but you can't step into the same river twice people like to throw in the word obsolete so that they think they're smart, without giving it much thought what is obsolete: 4/4 cpus gcn and kepler gpus what is not: 3900x + 2080Ti system on a 970 Pro drive
Where did AMD get greedy? I just built an AMD based system for my son, for nearly half the cost of an Intel equivalent.... Also, 4core/4thread CPUs are far from obsolete....

I don’t think a lot of people realise the physical requirements for PCIE 5.0 are very complex especially in ATX form or even smaller. Not even mentioning it is utterly useless and very expensive for consumers or even prosumers, only datacenters can make use of it. I wouldn’t expect PCIE 5.0 to become a consumer standard until 2025 or even beyond.
The people that want PCIe 5.0 only want it because it's newer and faster. They don't care that it's more expensive until they have to pay for it.

I mean do we really need pcie 5, i dont even think 4 makes a difference over gen 3 in real world task or gaming

For reads and writes to storage, it does. For GPUs, unless you're using a card that's limited to x8, it makes no difference.

AMD is still trying to make Gen 4 work properly, theres no way they'll be going Gen 5 on AM5 (They may on Threadripper however)

I think it was a wise decision (if it's true).

If PCIE 5.0 benefited gamers alone it would be a success. Unfortunately, its too far ahead and there is scant need other than server side. Game load times since SATA have improved a little but not much. Gfx card performance has yet to improve with PCIE 4.0, it can benefit game load times (populating gfx memory) to a small degree. What we need is the opposite end of the spectrum, with regard to SSDs, better 4K transfer rates. No improvement in PCIE can help this. For the current and next gen hardware, a PCIE jump wont help gaming.

pcie 4.0 will be the most relevant until we get next gen consoles with pci-e 5.0 tbh.
