A system from 2009, last service pack from 2011, meaning it will reach end of "features" support in 2 years. There's a huge change in graphics driver model, and investing in Windows 7 graphics makes no sense.
When I posted I was more thinking of when DX12 was announced. Which was how many years ago? It was heavily hinted at the time that it would be supported by Windows 7. I personally don't care, I use 8.1.

when I was younger, I used to get excited about new directx versions. yay directx 6 .yay 16 bit graphics. yay directx 7 wow graphics. yay directx 8. errr sound issues. great graphics. yay directx 8.1 yay sound issues fixed. yay directx 9. :bang:my gpu is a piece of crap......need to upgrade. new games used require newest directx

Hmm, DX12 could be incorporated into the game itself if the game manufacture wanted to and then you would not need to upgrade to Windows 10, but I doubt if Micro$oft would allow that to happen.

Huum, DX12 have been announced in the fall / end of 2013 after mantle release. Some maybe have think it will maybe come to win7... but it was allready annunced for a release like fall of 2015 ( who seems to be the date of the final release of Win10 ).... looking at this time was nearly 2 years away of a next windows release. Seriously i will not see anyreason ( good or bad for MS to push it to Win7... from their point of view ofc ). We know, all, at the moment some DX12 games will be released and been different of the DX11 versions ( whatever it is due to performance or visual ), gamers will move to it.. Casual users too will do it, because their new laptops, desktop will be sold with windows 10...

MS needs to bounce back BIG after Windows 8 and also the hurt they caused themselves from Surface 1 & 2. Using DX12 is that extra push that they can use to get people to jump onboard to get Windows 10. Nothing to see here.

Microsoft have already confirmed Dx12 won't be coming for Windows 7.

Windows 8.1 is far from perfect, I had to disable the metro apps completely because there was no way to get applications to launch properly at startup no matter what I did, no registry tweaks or user permissions could make them start, only by fully disabling that could I get it to work. I can't even use the calculator on my computer unless I find the exe buried in the windows files and launch it directly
Obviously there is something wrong with your OS installation. Personally I'd start over with a clean install as obviously what is happening to you, isn't the fault of the OS.

The Anandtech article made it sound like DX12 was only going to be fully implemented by engine developers and not by various one off companies, those companies will use 11.3. If that's the case I'm assuming that the major engine guys will be given technical releases from Microsoft directly as it's being developed. Will probably get worked into Cryengine/Frostbite/Unreal, etc, over the next year or so.

You put the response and the question in this phrase... Major productors of engine will have the possibility to quickly move from DX11.2 to DX12 and rewrite their API / engine for it, but little producters with less money will not been able to do it. This said... now that Unreal Engine will support it, this is contradictory a bit that: ... By buying a licence to UE ( for cheap, as it is not the most costly ) they will be able to do it for " free " . ( UE is cheap compared to other engine ) . I can imagine the next ones to announce it will be Unigine. UE was allready well stepped for little publishers, its a continuous trend with DX12. And Nvidia will be happy as they offer a nearly free licence to Nvidia gamework too with it ( even if most will surely not use it ).

Unless they do some crazy sale of win 10 ill hold on to my win 7 a while longer its not like games will even support dx12 for a couple years after release.

With XBox One supporting DX12, support for it on PC should come fairly soon after release. At least compared to DX10 and 11.

well i hope youre right. I dont fully understand the xbox api but hasnt it been stated that dx12 wont make any difference to consoles since theyre already close to metal programing anyways which is what this essentially is doing?

There's always some room for improvements, unless you're coding "direct to metal", which MS doesn't permit.

Unlike DX10 on Vista, which is substantially differnt internally from XP, Win7 is very similer to Win10 (so far), so it mite be possible to hack DX12 into Win7.

DX11.2 didn't get hacked into Win7 so I think you can forget about DX12 on Win7.

The best, PLAYABLE, games came from the dx7/8 era anyway. DX12 is now just a marketing balloon by which Microsoft drag in all the sheep to their farm
