here's a little perspective for those who think that prices are high...... Back in 1990 I purchased 8MB (yes you read that right eight megabytes) of 72pin EDO DRAM for $437.95 compared to todays price for 16GB for less half the cost

I assume this would also affect DDR5/5X and HBM2? Anyone confirm this?

I got my 64GB 3ghz enthusiast DDR4 memory for about 350 euro last year. Two 2x16 kits for that price. Right now ONE kit is 350 euro... *puke*

So you think it's a fair comparison here? You're either trying to justify the money you spent back then when tech was new and not mainstream or you're trying to "shut people up" who do have a legitimate reason to complain. In both cases, you're making an ass of yourself.

I've bought 32GB 3000MHz Ripjaws for 250 EUR 3 weeks ago, now they are 270 EUR and keep rising..

Can anyone predict when would it plateau or go down? I plan to upgrade my PC by end of this year, hopefully by then all prices have stabilised.

When technology moves forward. Or people stop buying. (Bubble bursts.)

2018 is the year of DDR5 it seems, so by 2019 it shall be the new standard? arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/03/next-generation-ddr5-ram-will-double-the-speed-of-ddr4-in-2018/ Sorry for being ignorant, but what bubble? New Mobos only support DDR4, correct? Totally new slot so no backward compatible, correct? Edit : DDR5 Link

Ddr5 probably won't even be seen on any consumer board till at least 2020 I'm hoping ram prices drop by the the time the ryzen refresh comes along

"...stop buying" implies economical bubble. Price is inflated. When technology improves, company reaps manufacturing efficiency over time. That allows for either more units sold at same price or same volume sold at decreased price (since manufacturing costs went down as result of improvements). This is simply economical bubble, not very different from tulip economic bubble, housing mortgage bubble, ... There was no disaster, factories did not burn/flood. Efficiency is improving over time, so prices can stay same (increased profit) or go down (same profit). But instead prices are getting up as demand is still high. Hard is predicting when someone decides to fill price vacuum or when this bubble bursts on its own.

Grabbed 32GB DDR3 for £80 ~14 months ago. Shocked by the price of DDR4. Maybe AMD needs to get more involved in the memory market now.

Xbox Scorpio uses 12GB of GDDR5 for system ram.

That almost makes me feel good about my 160€ 3200 CL 14 2x8gb G.Skill pick up. They're sitting at around 200€ now. Then again, it was still 160€ for 16gb, which prior I coulda gotten for half that price, when prices were still low(er). Well, the next pit will always come and maybe then it's time to pick up some larger DIMMs.

Well, there are some sited who made such claim. But it looks like great many actually say that Scorpio is going to use GDDR5. If you happen to find some interesting source for Scorpio and DDR5, it would be nice. But even if you do not, I think that only thing which holds DDR5 back is finalizing JEDEC specs and manufacturing process which can achieve required power efficiency in this spec. Btw, JEDEC plans it for 2018. And depending on signaling requirements, it may be possible to have DDR5 memory modules in DDR4 slots. Otherwise AM4 will be shortest living socket AMD ever made, as they should move to DDR5 as soon as possible for performance's sake of Ryzen. And AMD's survival.

Don't be surprised to see a refresh next year.

It's GDDR5 (obviously). http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-04-06-project-scorpio-explained

When i bought my Kingston Savage 32GB DDR4 kit last year, it cost me around £170. Now the same kit costs £260. Dream on, hardware inudstry, dream on.
