No Vulkan love? Sad.
Vulkan is great if the last two Doom's are anything to go by - comfortably the best optimised games I can recall playing. I think people are just happy that they've focused on nailing one API.

I think they focus on what has to be done now for the engine. Once they release the game, they'll have time to add Vulcan support, if its in their interest.

CDPR does not make the mistake of Rockstar with RDR2,who have DX12 & VLK API,because they are different API and the graphic engine of GTAV&RDR2 is already old.

I would probably vouch for vulkan over dx12 but hey atleast there is no dx11 anymore.

Khronikos:

What you said makes absolutely no sense. Vulkan is what people should be supporting. DX12 is hardly used for anything of note. RDR2 engine old lol? Right bud.
But,bud, the graphic engine of RDR2,GTAV,Max Payne 3,GTA4 is ...bad old RAGE, from 2006 until today.Which is old, true is "optimized" on GTAV&RDR2,but still... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockstar_Advanced_Game_Engine "Vulkan is what people should be supporting. DX12 is hardly used for anything of note." People, but not devs.Which they know what their graphic engine could do. 🙂

Like many i would also prefer Vulkan over D12 but maybe they had to chose the later because of consoles?

DOOM is an indication of what id can do, not a general assessment of the API. People tend to forget that the abilities and time that the development team has, matter much more than any API, and they are not an indicator about said API. Vulkan currently has worse documentation than DX12, and it's lacking some capabilities in the most common drivers still in use. I would personally prefer it if developers chose it over DX12, but I can also see why they might not.

That's essentially what I meant. Vulkan can perform very well - Doom is proof. But a dev devoting all of their resources to one API implementation is clearly better for most end users.

There is a mistake in this news, there is no update that added DX12 to Win7, the support is fully provided on the game clients end. It doesn't even require the platform update that came out with ie11
Khronikos:

Also, last game I played DX12 with Win 7 was COD, and you could not run it literally as the fullscreen didn't work properly, and all you could do was run borderless. Framerate was terrible.
Thats not a 12on7 issue, or a 7 issue, its infinity ward issue.

CDPR games are notorious for being much better after 6 months post release.
That's most definitely true for the first Witcher, that game was rough on launch day! But for 2 and 3 I thought they were pretty much perfect on release, I can't think of any major or even small issue that annoyed me.

Pretty much expected. Not sure why people cling to DX11 so much, all GPUs today from the most entry level (including new Intel iGPUs) support DX12. What is the newest NVidia GPU without DX12 support? 700 series ? That's 7 years old... Anything newer works with DX12 just fine ! As for AMD, everything GCN and up supports DX12 (with some reduced features in older 7900 / 200 series)
Reduced for 77xx series to (exept 7790).

Apart from easier support for Linux I can't see any reason for using Vulkan over Dx12, smoothness over raw frame rate anytime.
I would argue the inverse. Vulkan works on more hardware and software platforms (including older versions of Windows). It's open-source, which means anyone can make their own contributions toward it. Why choose DX12?

They don't want to support windows 8 users? XD

As someone using win10 anyway, I'm not really bothered with win7 support at all, but I think it's good that they want to keep people in. Although I would honestly say, if they didn't support win7, I would understand as well. What we see now is that FINALLY consoles and PCs work on the same API, which should make cross platform coding and ports a lot easier (are they still ports with the same API?), and that's actually what I've been anxious to see. Took them about two decades anyway but yeah... I just hope dx12 works well for everybody.
Sony and Nintendo can't use DX though, they use OpenGL or Vulkun or even some in house option. So not all machines are using the same API.

Name me a Vulkun game that doesn't run smooth?

Red Dead 2.
Vulkan ran far better then dx 12 version for me. I don't know if they care about win 7 performance why not switch to vulkan? Also people saying dx 11 should go... no it should not. there are so many small or indie games that will benefit dx11 and devs don't have to spend that much time and money on it. for AAA games? yeah, a well planted dx 12 or vulkan is much better.

Good, I hope this becomes the norm and we'll see less use of LOD to cut down on the triangles.

No Dos support, disgusting.
