I don't know rick lol, a 3950x stock would just kick that CPU ass. And doing CCX OC at 4.45 and 4.35 ghz while costing less and having 2 cores less it would say HI to your CPU s**t on it hahahaha:D while also using less power and costing waaaayyyyyyy less not to mention one is a Mainstream CPU and yours is a HDTE cpu. You basically doing everything you can to get the most of that CPU while these ryzen will do it with no extra crap like that where you can actually frack your CPU xD oh and at same clocks or stock the 3900x or 3950 would have better single core performance. so yea your cpu is obsolete

Just a bit of curiosity here on my part...do you know if heating your home with computers is efficient in terms of electricity in vs heat thrown out, when compared to conventional electrical heaters. I mean obviously you're actually getting some number crunching done at the same time which is a bonus, but I'm talking about the actual amount of electricity in vs the amount of heat thrown out....is it any less efficient at that conversion of energy than regular electrical heaters? If PC heating is just as efficient as regular heating then I may turn my heating down a bit and crunch some numbers for a good cause.

I wouln't call $500 mainstream but it's certainly "enthusiast mainstream" Otherwise you'd have to take into account that the 9900K(SF) isn't mainstream when it;s the ONLY chip the Intel fans care about because "it's the king" and everyone seems to have one.

My 1950X is about two years old but I consider it basically dead. My 3950X outperforms it by a whopping 30% in grid computing with 50 watts less. Technology moves fast, and two year old technology is basically ancient. :P

If we ware back in 2010's that would be true but today not so much. 1950x is still vastly superior to many cpus today. I would even dare to say its a 16c/32t beast. πŸ˜‰

I have 1950x too in my ubuntu server. I'm not happy that Threadripper gen 3 not working with x399 πŸ™ 7980xe is still top performer, 1950x not so much compared to 3950x. Even my 3900x beats 1950x in everything exept programs that like quad channel memory πŸ˜› 3600c16 memory works with my 1950x, so that is nice. Pretty crazy that an ancient cpu like 7980xe still kicking ass with enough cooling; Read delidded and custom watercooling πŸ˜›

Can you push it to 4.9ghz? 845watts is beyond insane. Still though it IS impressive performance and overclocking potential for an older system.

3960x 24 cores real-life aida64 values running cinebenchR20 multi-threaded stock 280Watts pbo mode 315Watts auto-oc ryzen master 347Watts not only I managed to make it draw 840Watt in my HX1200i PSU but I actually upgraded to custom watercooling from an AIO because it couldn't manage the heat (90Β°->76Β°C) even with a 55mm thick rad D5 pump etc...the idle is still at 50+Β°C which means the rad is constantly outputing heat unlike for example a 9900k which is cold at idle (something Intel are better than AMD) air cooling ahahah that's a good one NH-U9 TR4-SP3 : Max TDP 180W, no overclocking (not 250W TDP compatible) be quiet! Dark Rock Pro TR4 : Max TDP 250W

Anything more than 8 cores on Ryzen is not cool by any means and draws lot of power. Anyways 2066 socket platform can handle up to 28 cores CPU.

I seriously hope this isn't the real product - 380 watt TDP FFS! This is especially worrying since Intel advertises the TDP based on the base clock. What's the turbo TDP? 500W? Is this really the best that Intel can do to counter (the 280 watt peak usage) Threadripper?

No they are not. Mainstream is not just required chipset. Is the whole system. you do not run a 500$ cpu with a 30$ cooler and 50$ memories. Mainstream would be the cpu that people buy most in the diy build or pre made computers. The one that is mainly in computer. Now do not tell me that because there are 2000$ cpus everyone has a 9900k or a 3900x because they are just 500$.
