Sorry, numbers got mixed-up. 32bit single, 64bit double, 16bit half. Does it mean that Vega 10 has phenomenal half-precision performance? I can only find this source for Pascal half precision performance and it's not that impressive, we're talking Gflops rather than Tflops; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_10_series
GP100 (Tesla) uses a special cuda core that anandtech refers to as FP16v2. It can perform either one FP32 operation per clock or two "limited" FP16 operations per clock. It effectively doubles FP16 performance over FP32 in certain workloads. GP104 only has one of these cores per SM. They are basically geared 100% towards deep learning. Presumably Vega will be doing something similar.

I don't care much about teraflops and bandwidth. Just make a card which can do 4K60FPS for 500-600$.
So all you care about are teraflops and bandwidth 🤓 PS: Frontend performance has been the greatest bottleneck for GCN. Polaris improved that up to almost 4x compared to Tonga, another increase like that and they will be in Pascal territory.

we could keep on speculating based on rummer all night long:) but until it is officially announced & revealed, tested by Hilbert so i can see real numbers i will remain skeptic. Seeing is believing. 🤓

AMD's GCN is well behind Nvidia's Pascal and they can be near Nvidia in their fantasies and in dreams only (but you never know, maybe in 5-10 years). Just look at the prices of Nvidia vs AMD cards, it shows "how close" they are

Considering this came from AMD and not a friend of an unnamed tester who claims he has a engineering sample. This holds a little bit of water. Plus these numbers don't sound too far fetched

Don't take too much offence to this but you are delusional if you think Nvidia is "that" far ahead of AMD. Just look at DX12 benches.

Yeah Robinson, that's a coherent argument alright. Comparing top end cards to middle range cards in another segment. Let's compare the GTX 950 with the Fury X next time. OMG, the AMD card is more expensive! NVIDIA IS DOOMED. :infinity:

Lol Robitson, love your well articulated logic please do continue..

200 million HMD's by 2020? That's a pipe dream. 16GB of VRAM seems like a huge waste. Nothing will take advantage of that. I hope Vega is a top performer though. Competition is good!

I hope it will have a nice OC potential

Is it possible that Big Vega would be a 2x GPU card? I hope not and look forward to that kind of raw power in a single gpu card. Hilbert needs to get a HDR spec'ed TV or monitor to also test that next year. That will be THE package to update to (4K, 60+ FPS, HDR and maybe curved) next to any VR 2.0 systems.

it's like comparing an apple (the fruit) to an orange... GCN is more versatile and more modern but the card lack a bit from power. while NVidia's card are plenty of power but are more old fashioned. so some bench or game work better with one or other, but at the end it's more or less the same (exept on high end or pro where AMD have nothing to put in front of NVidia card, but it's less than 10% of the GPU sold ) *edit* also in some country like mine, AMD is more expensive than the equivalent in green...

AMD is absent at the moment from the top tier graphics card department, We all know it and it's another argument. I'm not comparing GTX 1080 vs RX 480 for example or something like that in any way. I have owned both ATI-AMD cards and Nvidia cards too, there is no perfect card with perfect price point, In the entry level, middle or top level comparison AMD cards are generally hotter with higher TDP, lower clocked and cheaper too, Nvidia cards are with higher performance, lower TDP, higher clocks and more expensive that AMD cards. I don't like those facts, but it's the reality till now. You're very good at evaluating the arguments PrMinisterGR, I have seen that numerous of times. :infinity:
