About time. It's sad that one of the best CPU you can buy atm is the 5800X3D ... price to performance when you factor in the platform the 5800X3D is very hard to beat if it's still available in your region.

In US the 7700x is going for $248 and 32gb of ddr5 6000 ram is $200, $169 w/o rgb. two very good Wi-Fi B650’s (asus, msi) at $200

Let's say you want 32GB of RAM. With DDR5 over DDR4 you need to pay an extra 100$. The difference between B650 and B550 is also 100$. A barely 100$ price drop on the CPU is not going to move the needle much. Especially considering how flawed the RTX 4000 series availability is. And you'll have to call me pessimist but I severely doubt that AMD GPU pricing will be anything but in line with Nvidia pricing. Chances are that both the general public and even companies would rather buy last gen components for cheap over current gen stuff. And unless if really fits your use case forking over an extra 100$ or more is probably not appealing to you either.
Well its more than that because its a case of what does a 7700x get you over a decent 5*** CPU, nothing at UHD gaming. A 7700x is around the same price as a 5800X3D but runs hotter and im sure loses out in 4k gaming. So if its gaming then going AM5 currently offers little over waiting a while until the performance jump is (more) noticeable to offset the cost of changing platforms.

If i was to upgrade to similar items from AM4 to AM5 then it would be near £900 just for a Gigabyte X670E Master mobo and 32gb of a good ram kit. The mobo alone is £530 then it's £370 for the 32gb ram kit i would want. Add in £748.99 for a 7950X. It's gone down to £599.99 now so a £150 saving. So £1500 pound for those 3 items. 🙁 I'm so glad i went down the X3D route. A chip that really was worth it's money.

If I could get a 5800X3D in my country I would. The price premium of the 7000 series (especially motherboards) make it not worth it for gamers at all.

I thought the CPU's were priced pretty fair actually but it's the cost of DDR5 memory (not AMD's fault) and the motherboards that are too expensive. Ended up going down 7700X route because recent sale for us down under dropped its price lower than the 5800X3D and 5900X (my original planned upgrade). The B650E board I am looking to get seem as good if not better than my X570 and priced about the same when I got it so not too fussed about going X670. Using the PC for Photoshop/Lightroom too and not just gaming and also planning to gift my parents my current 3700X setup because their ancient 4770K system (another hand-me down hah) is really on its way out I think so the 7700X route ultimately made sense for me.

Cut them again and also the mbs, then we can talk again.
It's especially the mobo and RAM prices I have a beef with. The mobo prices are so bloated it's obvious they're pushing it as far as they can to see what they can get away with.

Although AMD mention of cutting the price down but different countrys still remain their selling price as those are been listed with previous prices.. We just need to wait for newer restock

So far I noticed the am5 motherboards have a total overkill on vrm witch ... Well they better do on their asking prices reducing it to 2/3 most likely will be fine for 150 eur/USD boards and still have room for oc , for example the b550 mortar and tomahawk can handle 200 watts with good ventilation , obviously not really recommended for ln2 /dry ice or even custom water cooling overclocking but for tuning and light overclocking they can handle just fine a 5950x @150-175 that's on 8 phase +2 memory ..... seeing 12 16 or even 20 phases is insanity for the midrange 😛

The new prices are in effect in the UK but as others have mentioned, £350 gets you a 7700x OR 5800x3d but AM5 Mobos and DDR5 are still pretty expensive for no gaming performance gain.

5800x3d is sadly sold out in Canada on amazon and newegg (only available thru 3rd party at stupid price). It was still available last weekend on amazon for 380$ CAD though and this was probably the best buy at that time.

So True but it's also why i felt very comfortable spec'ing a B650 to replace my X570S. i bought the mobo @ $219 and paid $260 for the X570S so i felt ok personally. i still haven't fleshed out the system because i'm waiting for the 7xxx to drop and get the "gpu shootout" to see if the next gen is right for me as i have an RDNA 2 (6900xt) that will either migrate to HTPC or family. if the Delta isn't that great i'll buy another 6900xt or 6950xt on blowout sale.

ok i don't want to be a braggart, i've worked in consumer electronics for 25 years before working in industrial electronics. i've picked up much stuff (but not pc components) below cost @ manufacturer's discount or accommodation. so yeah i'm pretty well tricked out..."but" o_O HTPC "only" has a 2070 and i put a 4k in there 6 months ago

Tbh I think they would give in few generations same as they give on lower res. It's not like 4K is CPU bound that often. Basically any modern CPU from 5xxx upwards and from Intel 12xxx are the same at 4K. Can go even further back probably.

Yeah, for gaming theres as lot of folk who upgrade a CPU unnecissarily. SDaying that at 4k i did notice a difference going from a 3800x to a 5800x3d, certainly in my flight sim (DCS)

Yeah even I saw difference in world of tanks with 3900x to 5900x.

There are already 7600Xs selling bellow the 300€ mark, a much better price. And there`s a store selling a 7700x for 410€, that`s tempting but the MBs are the problem, expensive and there are so few reviews of them...
