Srsbsns:

Ryzen 1 already had QVL 3400Mhz memory on the ASRock boards. How far do we think its going to go? I think we might be seeing 3800mhz personally but thats based off nothing.
I got 2x G.SKILL 16GB KIT DDR4 3600MHz CL16 Trident Z. I'll be happy if I can hit 3200MHz w/ 4 sticks. G.SKILL memories have quite good track record w/ Ryzen. And My target is ASRock X470 Taichi. If that ever comes. Backup is MSI X470 GAMING PRO CARBON AC. But there are things about this MSI I do not like. Too many features I do not need which may have negative effect on performance.

Nice review! And nice to see AMD back on top on the CPU front. Even in gaming, the differences are not that great vs 8700k. Non-issue for high res gaming. Overall a killer chip at a killer price. Quite refreshing to see poor, cash-strapped AMD taking on Intel with its multi-billion $ R&D budget and handing their ass to them on a plate 😀. Just wish they could do the same to Nvidia on the GPU front. Then it would be back to the good old days of intense rivalry and price wars and more interesting times.

Looks promising. Nealy matching the 7900X in performance. Not sure how intel can continue to justify their pricing...

Hilbert, page 30, Conclusion Value for money, Cents per CB chart: You are using old EU prices for Coffee Lake (8700k = 389 euro, $420), while using current US prices for Zen+ (2700X = $329)

Looks good, but I will wait for the price to drop.

On intel's side? 😀

Nice. If some samples can hit 4500Ghz and have more friendly time with RAM I would consider change my 1700 4.1Ghz with 3200 RAM to 2700. (or X)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Ryzen 2700x @ 4.4GHz beats the intel at minimum FPS with their quad and hexa-core procs in most games. It might need RAM speeds around 3500MHz for it. But I remember a dude on a forum with a Ryzen 1800x @ 4,1GHz and 3500Mhz RAM that showed that it was already the case with some games. Better(higher) low fps

I was thinking of getting the 2700X, but it needs to drop 50 bucks before I consider it.

No my question was more about if 4 DIMMS ( 8 x 4 in 2 kits of 16 ) are as good as only 2 Dimms for speed. I was waiting a review for the new computer and i am here itchy to buy.

hey Hilbert, great job per usual. my only question is did AMD time this release with the U.S. tax returns in mind? if so....genius 😀 do i need this? nope. both ryzen and threadripper doing fine if not great. do i want this? hell to the YES;) the x470 boards look way better imo too, but i'll update my taichi and decide if MSI upped their AMD game later. can't wait to see the 2800 at Fry's

No, these are MSRP prices at launch in USD (unless the manufacturers did not list them, then it's the best close match).

Previously, you mentioned price in SEK. here 2700X costs 10,7% more than 1700X. And that's price which matches AMD's pricing, so shops are not milking it. If your local price is in similar range, I would not expect it to go down any time soon.

Fry's is around the corner from AMD...literally (in Sunnyvale)

That is a very good question, I'll need to check that out.

They cost almost same in retail. 8700K is a bit cheaper. And it's reviewed with XFR enabled, so overclocked. Intel has one-click solution as well. It's just not branded or advertised. Anyway hope to see 8-core i7 soon.

Okay, so I quickly checked this out for you. It's tested on the ASUS Crosshair VII Hero (review goes live tomorrow). So this was merely popping in 4 similar DIMMs (though batches differed) and enabling XMP. XMP kicks in properly at 3200 MHz CL14 with a four DIMM (dual rank dual channel) setup. That definitely is an improvement over X370.

Id like to give GIANT props to Hilbert for this (and other) reviews. Guru 3D is a place to go for me since 90s, I even like the specific spelling style in a reviews :P And the fact HH goes to forums, answers our questions and gives a reccomendations... after all those years... damn!!! Thank you! And yes, I like these CPUs .)

Just noticed something. The review done with the Corsair H110 LC cooler. Then the extra 100mhz OC is probably not worth it. Wonder how the stock cooler performs at default speeds. Because thats a big part of the value equation vs the 8700k since it does not come one. So AMD went all out in maxing the clocks to get these results. OC'ing therefore may not be a worthy endeavor. Also noticed in another review (Anand) that the 2700x does better in gaming across the board vs the 8700k. Of course different selection of games, but for heavily multi-threaded games like Civ 6, the 2700x will clearly have the advantage.
