Why would I buy a 2xx series if I already have the same 7xxx series Then why would I buy the 3xx series if I already have the 7xxx series which is also the 2xx series they just rebranded to the 3xx series? I wouldn't But if I had a 7xxx series and the 2xx series was a totally new and upgraded card, I'd upgrade, and then again if the 3xx series was completely new and upgraded than the 2xx series No reason to keep buying the same card over and over just because it's been given a lick of paint
Nv are also guilty of rebranding as well, nothing wrong with that. As long the current gen flagship is not re-brand.

Well personally, when I buy a new GPU, I want a real 'upgrade', way better performance than the last GPU I had, otherwise I don't see the point 5770 > 2 x 5770 > 6850 > 2 x 6850 > 7870 because CF was still awful > 760 because 7870 failed > 290 > 295X2 > 980 because CF was still awful Each time, a decent upgrade (Other than the CF upgrades)

so what in hell will fiji be called? 490x?
data/avatar/default/avatar20.webp
Does this mean fiji is going to be cheaper?

Oh that is a 1000$ question for nvidia, what if its going to be called 470X and sold for 220$ ?

^^That is because amd is not in the business of making a profit then?

AMD Has Surprises In Store With Its Upcoming Radeon 300 Series The statement that the 300 series will not be rebrands The surprise is that they are rebrands. AMD=OCP: ...Had a guaranteed sale with the rebrands! Renovation program! Spare parts for 25 years! Who cared if it worked or not...

Only if it would not sell a hell of a lot better than the competition.

Flagship fiji for $220?, I do not see that happening. They have sold cpu`s in the past for $1000 bucks socket 939 cpu`s. If they can get away with selling fiji for that amount they would. Though 4gb card does not scream $1000 card to me imo.

Bit of a mess tbh, as all those new fressync monitors are 1440p, which you'll need more than 4GB for really.

It could look at the 14nm spec 😀

Depends on performance. If it's like 20% faster than a Titan X @ 1080/QHD I could see them charging a $1000 for it, the vast majority of people probably won't hit the 4GB limit. If it's like same speed though or less though, no. I'm betting it will be $750-800.

14nm process isn't ready for GPU's, so no. Not to mention that manufacturing per mm2 at 14nm is actually more expensive at the moment then 28nm, so it would only serve to drive costs up, so double no.

Fiji isn't numbered, its named like Nvidias Titan.

Maybe they will name it the Titan(ic) or something?

The longer this continues the more likely this card will be DOA.

I guess they still clearing the channels of stock. On the other hand this could make sense with the impending release of windows 10 and Directx12. Knowing their current architecture could be boosted by DX12 this maybe strategic after all. Again who knows....

Refresh with HBM Memory and lower TDP would be sexy, but 1:1 refresh with more Mhz ...

This was kind of a sad read. My current card is ancient, so anything would be an upgrade, but I originally intended to get a 970 last year, but decided to wait for AMD's shiny new cards instead. Now I wonder if I made a poor choice, especially since the prices went up when euro went down. Talking about rebrands, surely they would need to modify Hawaii to GCN 1.2 at least, though? How could they release a new card now with the dusty old GCN 1.1 when 1.2 has been out for a while? Or would such a change be too fundamental to be possible? My knowledge is superficial at best, but didn't 1.2 improve AMD's touted Achilles heel: tessellation?

maybe faster rams on the 290x card would help too and that alone would be enough for a good boost of a few frames I dought they will find much head room on the core but if they do watch out as some of you know,if you get even 50 -100 more on the core they just fly. so It could be a crappy refresh like the 9800 gtx/+/250 or a good one like gtx480 to 580gtx....ahhhhhh I guess we will see pretty soon

Really? What games need more than 4GB? I'm playing at that res just fine, Witcher 3 is a beautiful game and only uses 2GB, GTA V only uses 3GB so 4 will be fine for a long while yet.:) For 4K yes you'd want more than that, but not for 1440p.
