GCN took off pretty well though. while I hoped to see new SKU's come from AMD aside from the 390, this is not all that horrible if the price range is right.

I wonder if these will be the same as retail products since there has been variance. OEM parts are OEM parts.

AMD just simply needs to release less products. Drop the stupid "X" suffix, then have the new products take the place of any old ones.

If these oem respins are also regular release versions, amd is in huge trouble.

I've heard this was just the OEM parts, saying that I wasn't aware OEM cards differed from retail.

The only thing I am curious about is what was meant months ago when it was stated that none of the 300 series were going to be rebrands? If their stories cannot stay consistent then they will burn through their reserves.

And once upon a time in a faraway land, AMD told the citizens that the new series of GPU's are gonna be an ENTIRE new line.New as to a different GPU code name probably. That's just about it.
So...the way things are.I have a R9 280 right now.If someone was to compare that GPU to R9 285 in performance terms, he would see NO difference at all.Now 285 is being used to remake R9 380?The way this thing goes, it doesn't seem like 380 will be AT LEAST twice as stronger than my 280.Not even clearly by that much.Is this how PC technology advances nowadays? With REMAKES?What a load of.....ahem anyway.Keep cool....keep cool i say to myself.
Also you can blame consoles for that.Holding PC technology back, but then again, it's not always consoles doing that kind of damage.Nvidia was in the open.AMD could have EASILY wiped the floor this time with e'm.Decided to go ''remake'' style....again.Why?Let me take a guess. All for the balance of the market. We don't wan't to throw Nvidia aside (though we can easily at this point) but we don't.That would upset the balance of the market.

Title is misleading OEM R9 380 is a rebrand the 380 is not.

Keyword to me is OEM version. These are not retail cards. Even if the retail ones turn out to be based on the 200 series to the same extent as the OEM cards, I'm betting that they will be somewhat better than the 200's in the same way that the 200's are better than the 7XXX's they are based on. Already the fact that the 370 is based on the 270X makes it better than a regular 270.
I was thinking about upgrading to a 300 series from my 270X but now I'm not so sure I will if the differences are going to be so slight. Especially since my spending limit would be at a max of $250. If I can get a significantly better card for that price or less, then maybe.
I'm perfectly satisfied to continue gaming at "only" 1080. I really see no need for 4K. Just because it exists doesn't mean I have to have it. Heck, I only went to an HD TV within the last year.

That is a fair comment, but is there a link that shows the retail R9 260 270 280 are better/different to the OEM cards?
Dch48
I don't know if there is but the tone of the article infers that they are differences.
The chart also does infer that the 300 series will all be fully compatible with DX12 and not just partially like some of the 200 cards. That should improve performance right there.

What are OEM cards then?

They did the same thing with 200 series and OEM.. Or nvidia for that matter with their OEM parts..
Dunno why all this drama now, its not Fiji chip anyway, so who cares? 😀

This article is specifically about OEM cards....NOT retail.
This article is specifically about OEM cards....NOT retail.
AMD and NVidia have always released OEM cards that differed from retail. OEM cards are based on what the OEM wants.
And once upon a time, people actually read articles before they started trolling.
Depends on which series you look at.
