It's not, it's an esport. They have a different name for a reason. On the other hand, if you're saying gaming shouldn't be competitive on a level where people get paid, then you're just wrong. That being said I think there should be age limits on this kind of stuff.
i'm not saying that gaming should not be competitive and people should not get payed. I'm just saying at 8 years old..man i dont know...

As a parent I would want to protect my child but also be open to the money to invest in my kids future. I'd probably try to figure out what the catches were and set up an account for my kid when he's an adult or something.
All you need to know about any online game with voice com is typing its name into youtube and add: "Toxic", "rage", ... Reason why online interaction is not rated is simple. When people feel anonymous, they let their true self out.

This is stupid as fnck. Also gaming is not a sport, no matter what anyone says.
I bet you still dont think race drivers are athletes, or that iracing is an e sport either.

PC gaming in terms of e-sport has element of luck and element of skill. While I strongly disagree with course of action described in article, gaming is sport to some degree.
You could say about the same about standing in the 2nd lane of a German Autobahn, trying to evade cars .... ๐Ÿ˜€ Just saying ... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Which is something I'll probably deal with better than my own parents. It was a new frontier for them, not so much for me. After playing at LAN's and competitions online in CS for 15 years I've seen my fair share of toxicity, even from myself to be fair. But overall, one needs to weigh the cons/pros, that money could be used to help kick start him as an adult if invested wisely.

Game is PEGI 12 rated. Kid plays since he is 6. Professional Gaming World: We can ignore toxic environment of Fortnite, because of money. And funny part is that PEGI 12 rating does not include "online interactions". In other words: "Game is rated PEGI 12 as long as you do not enter multiplayer. Moment you enter multiplayer, it is whole different world."
Then parents get on ESRB and PEGI for not regulating they games, that the parent bought for there kid that they should not be playing in first place.. and in case of shooter games you have how 8 year or younger are playing those games, they grow to potty mouth teen then adult cause parent cant be bother these days to paren and it not problem tm till there kid does shooting then there lets blame the game industry, and people wonder why goverment is trying to get involved with regulating this stuff. CoD, GTA, Doom and many other game have been blamed for kids going fon shooting in school and other places, yet in most case the parent bought said game for there kid completely ignoring the in your face rating on the boxes, Game parent kids there days not there parents, very few parents actual make the effort these days, most give there kid tablet, console and what not just get there kid out there hair.

While parents are to blame. Pro-Gaming is business. Those teams let 6 y/o kid to play Fortnite knowing environment. And they know that they are going to make money out of this kid while he works for them. Team as business should show responsibility. And I do not talk child-labour. I talk unhealthy environment that creates unhealthy behavioral patterns. And that business is fully aware of it. Money talks => kid can eat all dirt there is and become dirt in process. I play only multiplayer games. And I do not care about toxicity, can't really do a thing to me. But mind of child...

That's why you need to involve the parents in the process. For instance, wealth that early in life could have issues --> invest/park it somewhere for when he's an adult (maybe use a small portion now, but keep things sensible). Also talk to your kid about said toxicity and behavior towards it. But alas, not all parents would be this involved of course.

W8... when they help out to gather some extra cash cuz the family is really poor it's called child's labour, but when they play games and get payed it's called e-sports?

Well yeah I agree. It's too young and it's exploitative.

Do tournaments even allow 8 year olds to enter them?

I guess he must bring his parents. 8 year old kids should have other priorities in life than playing esports. Kids these days ... ๐Ÿ˜€

I doubt the parents had a choice, kids are very aggressive these days. These 2000 generation kids will be a nightmare for our future.

the problem stems from parents leting the kid play these game at such age, the pro gaming is "businesses" out for it self. I not against kids play game I against kids play game not rated for them to be playing and the parents knowing it not for them, then sudden growing brain and care when said kid goes shooting rampage in school like many have. I lost count how many time GTA/CoD/Doom and other shooter type game have been blame for those shooting and how many time the parent was one that got said game for kid but didnt care then. I am seriously worried about future generation of kids that are "parented" by these games and instead of the parents. This can be good for the kid could also be bad depend on how things go. The mouths on thes kids in the these type games from 15+ years ago in game chat from 8year and younger is why I disable that crap back then, and it only got worse since then cause parent dont really care. most parent out right ignore and or laugh about from my experience. then complain about it when they talking like that in real life. The buisiness dont care for the kid just what kid can get them, the parent should care, but if they did they would never let kid play said game at his 8 age

Parents "saw" money highly doubt they said no.
