The good old days of Glide I loved my Voodoo 2's, makes me wonder what would GPU's be like now if 3DFX hadn't sold out to Nvidia

Voodoo 3 3000 was my first ever card. I felt like such a boss going into Babbages and buying Aliens VS Predator that had a sticker on the box that said: "3d Hardware Accelerator Required." 😎

I don't see why porting it to PCIe shouldn't be possible
Actually, there is no need to port anything, or write any special drivers. The solution exists and has existed for a long time, and it's called PLX PEX8112. https://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data%20Sheets/Avago%20PDFs/PEX_8112-AA_Data_Book.pdf I'm looking at it on my old sound card with a chip designed for PCI, but implemented as PCI-e x1 via this bridge chip. The problem is that these chips are not being made anymore for quite a long time, since PCI is basically dead outside of maintenance of industrial environments, and existing ones are probably not easy to obtain ... maybe only by unglue-ing it from some sound card ... ;-) But there is no point indeed, since it doesn't bring any performance benefits... it's simply a bridge chip.

Good point - not sure why I didn't think of that. This GPU probably doesn't use much bandwidth either so I'm sure there'd be no performance penalty.

nostalgia... I had a Voodoo 2, great experience using the Glide in many games. NVidia can thanks 3dfx for the SLI.
Nvidia SLI and 3dfx SLI are not the same. Nvidia did not get SLI from 3dfx.

I owned a couple of 3dfx cards back in the day. I know for sure i had a Voodoo Banshee, Voodoo 3 3000 and Voodoo 5 5500 AGP.
I remember trying to squeeze every bit of fps out for Quake 3 with WickedGL on a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP on 640x480 back in 1999/2000. Those were the days on CRT heating up the room, in between cleaning the ball mice as it messed up your tracking.

My first 2d card was an ATI linked to a 3Dfx Voodoo. PC has been bought used and I quickly bought a Voodoo 2 (12mb). Graphics were amazing for the time!

And last but not least: Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind:
I think 3dfx era ended before Morrowind got released. I may be mistaken though.. was it possible to play Morrowind with a 3dfx? As far as I remember I upgraded from a Voodoo3 to a Geforce 4 exactly to be able to play Morrowind.

Come on Hilbert, we're a lot older than you think. I still have fond memories of my first Orchid Righteous 3D. I wish I hadn't given it away.

NVidia can thanks 3dfx for the SLI.
Scan-Line Interleave (3dfx) and Scalable Link Interface (nvidia) are not the same thing and nvidia has literally no reason to "thank" 3dfx for it, as they are different technologies.

That was an april fool's thingy if I remembered correct, yuppers, Bitchin' fast. Speaking about the crysis in the video: I Remembered back in the days when I had the 2 fastest cards at that time when crysis came out: ATI's: 2900 XTX Nvidia's: 8800GTX Remembered playing the online beta at that time. Can it run crysis at that time? HELL NO, If I remembered correctly, 8800GTX pulled couple more fps but I believe it was below 15 fps, virtually it was like unplayable, more like a benchmark tool at that time.

I vividly remember the hours I wasted on Need for speed high stakes with the Voodoo 5500 in glide api
