ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Core spotted with .. GDDR5X

Peculiar, and maybe a little weird even. Remember the GeForce GTX 1060 being fitted with GDDR5X and the GP104? Well, in the end, there was no perf gain. However, it seems NVIDIA now as well is doing the same trick with the GeForce GTX 1070.

Over at Zotac a GeForce GTX 1070 is now listed, with GDDR5X. It seems there is a massive surplus of GDDR5X while all the new cards make a move towards GDDR6.

It is the GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Core GDDR5X (model: ZT-P10700Q-10P) and it get's a memory clock speed of 8.00 GHz / 256-bit (8.20 GHz on the GDDR5 model). The GPU is clocked at 1607 MHz, with a 1797 MHz GPU Boost. Which is actually also a notch below the clock-speeds of the GDDR5 AMP Extreme. We expect no perf differences here as it looks like the AIB is making things even.

Thanks, SH SOTN for the news submitted. And yes, if Zotac is doing this, other AIB partners are soon to follow.
