Xeon E3-1200 v6 Kaby Lake-processor specs

Xeon E3-1200 v6 Kaby Lake-processor specs

The desktop Kaby lake processors have been announced and released, however the Xeon (server) counter-parts still had been unlisted, until today that is. In a document from a motherboard manufacturer all processors and specification have been noted.

Time for an overview. From the looks of it, there will be eight (four core) Kaby Lake Xeon SKUs released. Two SKus will not be hyper-threaded, six processors will get Ht active. The entire range starts at 3.0 GHz and ends at 3.9 GHz. It is a little unclear wether that is a base or Boost frequency though. All of them are either 72 or 73 Watt TDP wise. The 73 Watt models have the GPU active which would be an Intel HD 9630 1150 MHz embedded unit. The new Xeon E3-12xx v6  series processors will all be quad-core and get 8MB L3 cache.

A summary of known details of Xeon E3-1200 v6 microprocessors is provided in the table below:

I don't follow Xeon closely. Is the integrated GPU something new or has it been there before for Xeon?

These are desktop server parts where a monitor is expected to be occasionally used (E3 parts), not server cluster parts where a monitor isn't really used (E5-E7 parts).

Since Sandy Bridge (the first cpu architecture with intel integrated graphics), Xeon E3 counterparts have had integrated GPU's.

If the v5 is anything to go by, the frequencies listed are base frequencies. E3-1280 v5 base is 3.7GHz and turbo is 4.0GHz. And if Kaby Lake is anything to go by then chips will all just get a 200Mhz boost.

Where is difference between these and Core i7? It looks pretty same.

ECC memory and a few other things are activated in these.
