Windows 8.1 preview video
With the launch of the public preview version of Windows 8.1 today, Microsoft is wasting no time in hyping the first major upgrade for Windows 8 with a new video. The video showcases the changes to the Start screen, including highlighting its larger and smaller Live Tiles, the deeper customization features, the 'apps only' list and the more improved search features. It also shows off the new 'snap view' modes for the Modern Windows 8 apps that will allow users to run more than just two apps at one time. The video also shows the redesign of the Windows Store for the Windows 8.1 upgrade and, yes, the Start button is showcased at the bottom.
Users interested in testing this release can download it over here. If you upgrade from Windows 8, you will be able to keep all Windows settings, your personal files, and most apps, but under some circumstances, you will not be able to uninstall the preview, making it impossible to upgrade to the final Windows 8.1 build without completely reinstalling the operating system. Full details can be found in the Windows 8.1 Preview FAQ.
