Recently, a Japanese vendor operating on Yahoo Auctions has been posting listings for PlayStation 5 prototype consoles.

The sales periods for these items are usually limited to a 24-hour window, possibly to evade potential legal repercussions from Sony Corporation. Just last week, a "Prototype 2—not for sale" devkit was offered and fetched approximately JP¥ 800,000 ($5500). Following that, a "Prototype 1" unit was procured for JP¥551,000 ($3810) over the weekend. This morning, another auction commenced with a starting bid of JP¥600,000 ($4150) for an unlabelled system.

This vendor has caught the interest of the gaming enthusiasts due to their ability to source and auction various rare hardware pieces, inclusive of PSP development kits. The PS5 prototypes in question are presumed to have been developed before the leaked devkit that surfaced before the official PlayStation 5 release. As a result, these items hold particular appeal for avid collectors in search of unique additions.

While Sony Corporation's comprehensive tracking system is likely to render these units inoperable, the gaming community has expressed surprise over the absence of any visible action from Sony. The fact that the vendor has consistently been able to access and sell numerous pieces of PlayStation development equipment, some dating back over ten years, continues to perplex observers.
