Syology decided to release a line of SSDs of their own, designed for demanding workloads like database storage or high transfer of data. The SSDs will be become available in 2.5-inch form factor, M.2 2280, and the longer form factor M.2 22110. 

The range of Synology NAS branded SSD, based on the information I have received, arrives in two forms. The first is a range of SATA based 2.5” SSD that can be utilized for both SSD caching and in NAS drives optimized for solid-state media and flash use, such as the Flashstation series or 2.5″ Diskstation range. These become available in 3 capacities:

The SATA series the SAT5200 is a 2.5" SSD will have capacities of 480GB, 960GB, and 1920GB. Being SATA3 bound the sequential read speed is 530 MB/s and sequential writing does the disk at 500 MB/s. The 1920GB model runs upwards to 98,000 IOPS and writing at 60,000 IOPS. BTW the these are fairly standard values in this day en era.

On the NVMe side the SNV3400 and SNV3500 have form factors of m2.2280 and m2.22110 (8cm/10cm), the PCIe 3.0 x4 SSDs will become available in a 400GB version and sequential read and write sequentially up to 3100 MB/sec (read) but only 550 MB/s (Write), while random read and write can be up to 205,000 and 40,000 IOPS. The 400GB model will cost 169 USD.

According to Synology, the SSDs have been tested for long-term loads, for use in demanding environments, such as virtualized workloads. The warranty is five years, a TBW value has not been disclosed just yet. We assume these of course are TLC NAND based SSDs.
