Synology DiskStation DS416slim NAS Released

Synology announced the release of DS416slim, a 4-bay NAS server aimed at home users and professionals in need of a compact, energy-saving, and easily transportable storage solution. It can host up to four 2.5" hard drives for a total of 8 TB available data.

"Despite its diminutive form factor and incredibly light weight of roughly 700 grams, DS416slim provides all of the powerful features you'd expect from a Synology NAS server. The small size makes it perfect for users without much space for in need of a reliable file server", said Jason Fan, Product Manager at Synology Inc. DS416slim's longest side measures less than 15 cm and will fit everywhere, whether it's a small student room or a busy office desk. It can also be easily transported to serve as a local file and backup servers during off-site assignments.

From a hardware point of view, DS416slim boasts a dual-core 1.0 GHz CPU with a dedicated encryption engine and 512 MB of DDR3 RAM. With Link Aggregation enabled, DS416slim delivers up to 170.23 MB/s in reading and 77.62 MB/s in writing. Writing through a single Gigabit LAN speed goes up to 78.81 MB/s, which represents a 30% boost compared to the previous generation. DS416slim's high performance is paired with low power consumption, as DS416slim consumes only 17.17 watts in average during activity.

DS416slim has been designed for convenient maintenance and cleaning. The four hot-swappable trays are easily accessible, and 2.5" hard drives can be replaced on the fly if needed. In addition, the fan module situated at the bottom of the unit can be removed in a breeze in case of malfunction. In addition, one of the two USB 3.0 ports is available on the front panel of DS416slim.

DS416slim runs DiskStation Manager (DSM), the most advanced and intuitive operating system for NAS devices. Featuring a wide range of applications from backup, network management to multimedia, DS416slim provides all essential services and increased productivity at work as well as a comprehensive media center solution. Synology recently topped TechTarget 10th Quality Awards NAS storage systems survey of midrange users, and received the highest rating for initial product quality and product features.
