Shuttle XPC DS87 Desktop

Shuttle XPC DS87 Desktop

Shuttle  announces the launch of its new DS87 model which is the second Intel Haswell platform in the product range to support up to three displays.

The Shuttle Barebone DS87 fits seamlessly into the successful series of robust DS models. The exterior of the new machine looks as though it can stand up to most heavy-duty environments. Boasting a black steel case, it is able to withstand mechanical stresses and external temperatures of 0-50 °C. As a popular feature, the DS87 also comes with a VESA mount that enables the machine to be fitted behind screens or to surfaces.

Two DisplayPort connectors and one HDMI port allow control of three high-resolution screens with different content. With the use of standard commercial passive adapters, the DisplayPort connector can be switched to HDMI or DVI.

This model also enables 4K monitors to be operated at 60 Hz with DisplayPort or at 30 Hz with HDMI. An Intel Core processor is recommended for playback of 3x 1080p (Full HD) or 1x 2160p (4K/Ultra HD).

The DS87 is based on the Intel H87 chipset and therefore supports the latest processors from the Intel Core product family for LGA1150 socket up to a TDP of 65 W. Two SO-DIMM slots accommodate DDR3 memory modules up to a total of 16 GB. Room for one 2.5" drive (SSD/HDD) with SATA 6 Gbit/s can also be found inside. If one more internal drive is needed, one of the two Mini-PCI-Express slots can be used for an mSATA-SSD drive. The second slot is available e.g. for the installation of a WLAN module.

As with the other DS models, the DS87 offers numerous inputs and outputs on the front panel and at the rear. These include 2x USB 3.0, 6x USB 2.0, Line-OUT, microphone, 2x DP, 1x HDMI, 2x Gigabit Ethernet and 2x RS-232. An SD card reader is also included in the front panel of the compact 19 x 16.5 x 4.3 cm (DWH) machine.

Dual Gigabit Ethernet, RS-232, Always-ON jumper and remote Power-ON enable the model to be used in demanding locations far removed from the conventional office desk.

"Whether used as a powerful desktop PC, media player or for networking and control, very few machines of this type offer the same level of flexibility as the DS87," says Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. "Its robust finish and flexible mounting options round out the concept."

The recommended retail price for the Shuttle Barebone DS87 is EUR 199.00 (ex VAT). The machine described in this press release is available from specialist retailers across Europe as of now. For more information, visit the product page.
