Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini Specs

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini Specs

While the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 were both followed by mini versions, rumors of an upcoming Galaxy S5 Mini have also been sailing through our ears, time and again. The last we heard was a rumor of an IP67 certification for the miniature handset, which simply states that water and dust will not be a threat to the S5's little brother. And that's not all.

The most recent gossip states that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will sport a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a 326ppi pixel density. Inside, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will reportedly come with a quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset clocked at 1.6GHz with 1.5GB of RAM. 16GB internal storage with a microSD card support of up to 32GB will make sure you carry all your pictures, music and movies around. The phone will come with an 8MP camera on its rear and a 1.5MP front-facing camera with a 2,100 mAh battery. To top it off, Samsung's upcoming offering could also sport Android 4.4.2 KitKat as its operating system with TouchWiz UI.

...it's a Nexus 4 with 500MB less ram released 2 years later. No way. It's still another "mini" phone with lackluster specs.

If they price it cheaply, which they never do, it'd be okay sans the abysmal battery, artificial limit on the SD expansion and the fact that the screen will be AMOLED.

720p is absolutely overkill for even a tablet unless it's AMOLED, then 720p is way too low as the grain is obvious. The S5 is 1080p on a 5.1" screen and the grain can still be seen on flat colours, especially white or grey. Luckily it's only very obvious on flat colours since 1080p is far beyond what should be necessary for 5 inches.

What I don't understand is why Samdung cheap out so badly when it comes to RAM, even the S5 had only 2GB while all the competitors seem to use 3GB. When I buy $600-$800 phone I expect it to have all the top end specs, not to stinge out on $5 worth of parts just because they can. I'd gladly give up the useless heart rate sensor and finger print scanner if it meant more RAM and a better screen.
