Samsung 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD: SM961 Ships Next week

Samsung 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD: SM961 Ships Next week

And they are fast! according to Rod Bland, CEO of RamCity Samsung SM961 1TB SSDs are en route to his company. The new SM961 is certainly a notch faster than the previous generation SM951 and retail 950 Pro, 3200 MB/s anyone ?

Oh and it still writes at 1800 MB/sec apparently. The OEM NVMe SSD uses a new controller that should produce less heat, a move aimed at reducing thermal throttle conditions, and it is called, you'll laugh when I say it .. The Polaris controller.

The AND used obviously is V-NAND and performs up to 3,200 MB/s (sequential read) and up to 450,000 random read IOPS at queue depth 32 says Toms Hardware. The SM961 will ship in four volumes, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB drives. The SM961 release obviously will also be indicative for the successor to the 950 pro, we take it it'll be 960 PRO NVMEs SSDs.

Now the really good news, apparently the 1TB SM961 will costs 512 USD. That's cheaper opposed to the SM951 series, that goes for all volume sizes.

Those are some serious speeds!

I barely can tell(if at all) the difference with my 950 Pro over an SSD. :P

Now the really good news, apparently the 1TB SM961 will costs less than a Samsung 950 Pro 512GB .. 512 USD. But that last one remains a bit speculative.

The Samsung 950 Pro 512GB is $320 on NewEgg.

Don't you mean the SM961 512GB version will cost less than the Samsung 950 Pro 512GB, not the 1 TB version?

Seems like a really good price for the performance. Will be buying something like this next year when I upgrade my system :)
