Rocket Lake-S 8-core/16-thread Processor Engineering Sample Spotted in 3DMark

Rocket Lake-S 8-core/16-thread Processor Engineering Sample Spotted in 3DMark

It's a little awkward to see Rocket lake Samples already live in the UL ORB really, so short after the release of Comet Lake that is. But the 8-core part at 14 nm++ with Gen12 Xe iGPU is spotted in the benchmark.

The unit sighted was an engineering sample and that means the clock frequencies are odd and off. compared to what the final retail sample will entail. But with 3.20 GHz as a base and 4.30 GHz as boost frequency, this Rocket Lake-S ES proc did finish a test run in Fire Strike and Time Spy.

For Fire Strike the Rocket Lake-S ES scored 18898 points in the physics test, 1895 points in the graphics tests (Xe IGP), and an overall score of 1746 points. For Time Spy the overall score is 605 (due to the IGP), with a CPU score of 4963 points, and a graphics score of 524.

The CPU scores are quite frankly quit horrible as the time spy CPU score ends in the Ryzen 3 3100 and Core i7 7700K range, but again, ES.

GPU score is like old A10-7870k. Nowhere near 2400G.
But it is 8C/16T CPU and therefore it would be bit unrealistic to expect bigger iGPU. It would be interesting to know number of shaders/TMUs/ROPs.
If it is low enough, then it may be quite good. I can imagine 4 times as many of what intel would use in iGPU for CPU oriented chip + twice as high clock in entry level dGPU.
It would play 1080p games on low quite fine. But it all falls down to price. So it is hard to judge Xe based on missing information.

Maybe next leak will be more interesting.

eyy, so if you ONLY use this CPU (without dgpu) you end up with a AMD 7890K from 2015.... in 2020.... quite sad lmao, gj Intel.

Looks to me like a ULV mobile chip rather than desktop variant.
