A leak based on Cinebench R20 indicates that Intel may be preparing to retake the lead in gaming performance with its future Rocket Lake processors. Key to reaching such a value would be a massive 5.5 GHz boost clock. I can only fear a TDP climax if that is the case.

The report was posted by CapFrameX on Twitter and endorsed by the folks at PCGamer. The tweet, in short he only says that Rocket Lake scored 655 points on Cinebench R20, putting it just ahead of the Ryzen 9 5950X, which hit 649 points. In order to achieve this score, it is mentioned that the new series codenamed Rocket Lake reaches 5.5 GHz, considerably higher than the 4.9 GHz of the Ryzen 9 5950X.While Cinebench is not a benchmark for performance in games, its single-core benchmarks are quite interesting to draw a parallel with games, as this type of software does not scale as well with a very high number of cores.

This new series of CPUs will be based on Sunny Cove cores, but still at 14 nm. This decision would allow Intel to raise the frequencies to the numbers that appear in Cinebench, although as a disadvantage it would bring a pretty intense power consumption and a limitation in the number of cores.
