Review: AMD A10-7870K Godavari processor

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 07/27/2015 08:09 AM | source: | 11 comment(s)

We review Godavari, the new A10-7870K APU from AMD. Initially intended for system-integrators who want to offer a nice APU at a reasonable price. However the 7870K today also will see the retail channel, the top dog APU from AMD is costing roughly 140 USD only and offers a balance in-between performance and energy consumption.

Check out the full review here.

Small boost to iGPU :) Nice review as always. Would recommend this to a budget htpc build.

Unfortunatelly the big problem of Amd Cpu is Single Core performance.
An old Q9650 3.0 Ghz (2008) with OC,say at FX 8320 3.5GHz (2012) at turbo speed 4.0GHz, will smash all AMd cpu in Single Core Perf.
So in browsing, office, multimedia enviroment an old 2008 cpu will smash "new" cpus from Amd.Not many apps are optimized for 4-6-8 cores. Sad but true.

So this A10-7870K (TDP 95W) will be again smashed by an i3 4330 3.5GHz (TDP 54W) in Single Core performance. For low profile and low TDP an i3 its a must.

I dont find A10-7870K passmark single core, but A10-7850K its almost the same:

Passmark (Single Core)

i3 4330 2,031
A10 7850K 1,578
FX 8320 1,402
i3 4360 2,150
i5 4570 2,068
i5 3570K 2,012
FX 6300 - 1,446

Cinebench R10 32-Bit (Single Core)

i3 4360 7,369
A10 7870K 4,051
i3 4330 6,784
A10 7850K 4,273
i5 4690K 7,619
i5 3570K 6,557
FX 6300 4,101

Im shocked how i3 Haswells are so good in Single Core performance.

Well we could do the same in the BIOS... add XXXMHz, tweak the GPU and there you go.

Funny to see it gets close to the 2500K in some benchmarks.

I get that example with Q9650 sk 775 at same speed to FX 8320 to see how an old architecture perform against some new architecture from Amd.
Well cant wait to see how Amd Zen will perform. :)
