The Radeon RX 7900 GRE was primarily compared with the Radeon RX 7900 XT and NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. The NVIDIA card demonstrated considerable superiority, given its higher-tier positioning compared to AMD's card.

Expreview recently completed an in-depth evaluation of AMD's Radeon RX 7900 GRE, a China-exclusive graphics card priced approximately at $740. Despite its 7900-series label, the card's performance closely aligns with or underperforms compared to the In 1080p resolution, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE trails behind the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti in gaming benchmarks such as The Last of Us Part 1 and Diablo 4. The AMD card only manages a slim lead in games like F1 22 and Assassin's Creed Hall of Valor, and a marginal advantage in F1 22 and Far Cry 6 with ray tracing enabled.

However, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE begins to exhibit improved performance at a 1440p resolution, potentially due to its 16 GB VRAM, outpacing the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti in most ray-traced game tests. At 4K resolution, both cards display limited performance, with the Radeon RX 7900 GRE finding it challenging to sustain 60 FPS in demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Last of Us Part 1. Given a minimal price difference of about $50, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti emerges as a superior choice despite possessing less VRAM. Performance-wise, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE aligns more with the Radeon RX 7800 segment, casting doubt on the value of awaiting the forthcoming Radeon RX 7800 cards, unless AMD chooses to price them lower.
