On July 19th, fast technology news highlighted the intense competition between AMD and Intel in the processor market. Both companies are not only focusing on CPU performance but also considering the overall ecosystem. Despite its advantages, the Ryzen platform faces a significant drawback regarding its interface, particularly the slower support for USB4.

Fortunately, a solution to this problem is within reach. Unlike AMD, the Intel platform features Thunderbolt 4 (Thunderbolt4), offering native support on both mobile and desktop platforms for the past two years. This advantage provides Intel with a more comprehensive ecosystem. However, AMD is working to address this issue by unlocking native USB4 support on their Ryzen processors.

AMD began supporting USB4 since the release of the Ryzen 6000 mobile processor last year. However, native support for USB4 is currently absent on the desktop platform. Presently, AMD relies on third-party manufacturers for USB4 support, incurring additional costs. To tackle this, AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, recently visited several Taiwanese manufacturers, including Xiangshuo. It is worth noting that Xiangshuo has been receiving AMD's South Bridge chip orders since 2016 and has played a crucial role in designing numerous motherboard chipsets, including the high-end X-series chipsets produced by AMD in recent years.

Xiangshuo is a key player in USB chips and is well-positioned in the USB4 era, with their products already certified by the USB-IF Association. Furthermore, their main control chip is expected to receive certification by the end of this year and enter mass production next year. It is highly likely that AMD's collaboration with Xiangshuo will result in USB4 support. As of now, the Ryzen 7000 desktop platform lacks native USB4 support. However, with the integration of Xiangshuo's solution, the next-generation chipsets, anticipated to launch next year, will be able to compete with Thunderbolt 4.
