MSI Outs a Low-profile GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics Card

MSI Outs a Low-profile GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics Card

While low profile video cards matter less and less in the desktop PC market, there are a few that really like them due to the small form factor. Nice for an easy HTPC build, albeit these days a simple APU solves that of course. That didn't stop MSI from releasing a  low-profile GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics card.

The card has just been released and a product page popped up. thanks, SH SOTN for the news submit btw. So basically you are looking at a half size PCB cover by a big aluminum slab and two 60 mm fans. Connectors are a little dim with dual-slot I/O shields for both full-height and half-height (low-profile) offering HDMI 2.0b, and a dual-link DVI-D, there's no DP. GeForce GTX 1650 has 896 shader cores so a simply game is possible, the memory btw is 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory with 4GB of it.

Low profile doesn't have anything to do with how many slots it takes up.

"Video card profiles are based on height only, with low-profile cards taking up less than the height of a PCIe slot, some can be as low as "half-height"."

As such, the below video card would never be described as "low profile"

It's a missthinking:
-low profile is low profile
-one slot is one slot

you can have full lengh, full size one slot as in workstation GPU
you can have low profile triple slot as some SAS controler

And low profile one slot as you were writing about

This is a nice jump int performance at this size profile. The 1650 is about 35-40% faster than the 1050ti and uses the same amount of power. It’s decent option for anyone wanting to make a small gaming PC out of something like a Dell optiplex SFF PC (which can be had for very cheap on eBay. This plus a i5-i7 equipped 7010 could clock in right under $350 and game very respectable at 1080.
