MilkyWay@Home Database shows Ryzen 7 5800X3D Entry

We now have our first third-party benchmark of AMD's upcoming Ryzen 7 5800X3D chip, courtesy of a new listing on MilkyWay@Home (via Tum Apisak). However, AMD claims that the chip's revolutionary 3D V-cache technology will boost gaming performance by up to 15%.



In a similar vein to Folding@Home, MilkyWay@Home is a BOINC platform that pools the computing power of several donated PCs from a dedicated community to build a massive supercomputer capable of processing a highly realistic 3D representation of the Milky Way Galaxy. The project is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. There is no way to tell how well this benchmark represents real-world performance, and there are no CPU comparisons for competitive Alder Lake options from MilkyWay@Home. As a result, it is important not to take these findings seriously.

According to the specifications, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor is installed in the same system as 16GB of memory and a Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card. The system operates on Windows 11 Pro but does not allow virtualization. The reading is most likely a Microsoft error, as the majority of AMD motherboards ship with virtualization deactivated in the BIOS, which may be enabled manually. Additionally, the L2 cache is given as 512KB, as the software does not identify the processor's L3 cache. We do know, however, that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D features 96MB of L3 cache.

According to performance measurements, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D system is capable of doing one billion floating-point and integer operations per second. Additionally, the average processing rate is 11.09 GFLOPs for the vanilla separation workload, 492.80 GFLOPs for the OpenCL separation workload (which makes use of the 6800 XT), and 272.02 GFLOPs for the N-Body simulation.

Comparisons to this score are, at best, imprecise. However, the Ryzen 9 5950X gets 11.07 GFLOPS on MilkyWay@Home's official CPU performance statistics, whereas the Ryzen 5 3600 scores 16.59.

Reputable testing software program should be able to provide us with additional benchmark results for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in the near future, so stay tuned. Sadly, the benchmarking capabilities of MilkyWay@Home are not optimal, which is why the comparisons appear to be a little off-kilter.
