Microsoft released their last public security updates for Windows 7 earlier this month, ending support for that operating system after more than 10 years. Microsoft however created a big of an issue with that last update, causing problems with the wallpaper for some Windows 7 users.

“After installing KB4534310, the desktop wallpaper may appear black when set to mode Stretch, ” admits Microsoft. It seems to only affect stretched wallpapers, and the adjustment, fill, tile or center options still work for Windows 7 users.

It is unusual for Microsoft to issue public patches and updates to operating systems that are marked as out of support, since customers generally have to buy ESU. These are US $25 or US $50 per machine for companies that are still running Windows 7, and have led the German government to pay around US $ 887,000 for their PCs. Microsoft earlier on relayed that this would not be fixed, and would only be available “for organizations that bought Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESU).

However, they are coming back from that statement and now will patch the issue. So yeah, there is one more Windows 7 patch inbound.
