Micron Monolithic 8 Gb DDR3 SDRAM
Micron announced the introduction of a monolithic 8 Gb DDR3 SDRAM component, enhancing its leadership position as a diverse memory solutions provider for enterprise applications such as data analytics. This new design is based on Micron's latest-generation 25 nm DRAM manufacturing process.
DDR3 is the mainstream DRAM technology for the enterprise market, and the addition of an 8 Gb monolithic component will enable cost-effective, high-capacity solutions optimized to support large-scale, data-intensive workloads.
Applications based on enterprise in-memory data analytics, search and social networking will benefit from this new addition to the established DDR3 ecosystem. The availability of 8 Gb-based solutions, such as the mainstream 32 GB RDIMM, will enable long-term, economical, richly configured systems across the data center.
"AMD is excited to leverage Micron's new DDR3 8 Gb solution," said Dhiraj Mallick, corporate vice president, AMD Data Center Server Solutions. "The SeaMicro SM15000 server is deployed in some of the most demanding data center environments, and this product allows us to expand the memory footprint to meet the performance needs of hyperscale data centers requiring efficient, high performance server systems."
Micron's DDR3 portfolio includes 8 Gb single-die and dual-die components, 32 GB RDIMMs (dual rank), 64 GB LRDIMMs, 32 GB ECC SODIMMs and 16 GB VLP ECC UDIMMs.
