LG Display is the first in Korea to mass-produce panels for 48-inch medium-sized OLED TV. Until now, only large panels of 55 inches or more have been produced in Korea, but after the coronavirus, 48-inch game TVs have rapidly increased in popularity, causing an emergency increase in production. 

48-inch is the smallest OLED TV currently on the market popular among gamers. LG Display will start producing panels by newly operating a 48-inch OLED TV line in Paju next month. At the factory in Guangzhou, China, which was in charge of producing 48-inch panels, it produced two large 77-inch panels from one glass plate, and additionally produced two 48-inch panels. In contrast, the Paju plant plans to maximize production by printing only eight 48-inch panels per sheet of glass. The industry predicts that the shipment of 48-inch panels, which was 220,000 units last year, will exceed 1 million units this year due to the operation of the Paju plant.

When LG Electronics first released a 48-inch TV aimed at gamers in June last year, the market reaction was skeptical. The dominant forecast was that buyers would choose large LCD TVs if they had money to buy medium-sized OLED TVs. However, contrary to expectations, medium-sized TVs with game-specific features, such as preventing the game screen from being cut off, gained popularity among gamers. 

On the 15th, LG Electronics' 48-inch OLED TV at Best Buy, the representative home appliance shopping mall in the United States, is selling for $1499.99, which is $100 more than the 55-inch model of the same product. An industry insider analyzed that "a phenomenon caused by no discount attached to 48-inch products with high demand."
