Lenovo unveils the ThinkPad 10 tablet

Lenovo has announced their new ThinkPad 10 tablet at the Lenovo Tech World event in Beijing, aimed squarely at business users.

The new ThinkPad 10 packs in a whole raft of features at a price point starting around $549 (USD), key of which are a 10.1" WUXGA 1920x1200 IPS touch display and Intel's latest quad-core Atom chipset. The tablet is specced for 10 hours battery life and will also ship with Windows 10 pre-installed when it arrives later this summer.

Another feature worth mentioning is the stylus the tablet is packaged with, which Lenovo has branded the 'ThinkPad Pen Pro.' Similar to Samsung's S-pen stylus, the Thinkpad Pen Pro will provide the tablet with handwriting-to-text conversion (via WriteIt software), so it will be interesting to see how it holds up against Samsung's own offering and whether it suffers from the same lag issues when writing at increased speeds.

Other notable features include a MicroSD slot, USB 3.0 and Mini-HDMI ports with optional 3G/4G LTE support, dTPM encryption, Fingerprint Reader or Smart Card Reader. With up to 128GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM the tablet should pack decent performance while keeping overall thickness to a slim 9.1mm.

Lenovo will offer a number of accessories for the ThinkPad 10 at launch, listed below (all prices in USD).

  • ThinkPad 10 Folio Keyboard - $110
  • ThinkPad 10 Ultrabook Keyboard - $119
  • QuickShot Cover - $45
  • Tablet Dock - $129
  • ThinkPad Pen Pro - $40
  • ThinkPad Protector Case - $55
  • ThinkPad Protector Should Strap - $10
  • 3M 4-way Privacy film - $70
  • 3M Anti-glare film - $30
  • Kensington MiniSaver Lock - $50
  • ThinkPad Micro HDMI to VGA adapter - $40
  • ThinkPad 10 Folio Wrap - $30
  • ThinkPad 10 DC Charger - $50

Prices on accessories are hurting my eyes as they put total price into no-go territory.
