A recent leak from @wnxod revealed the Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE) based on the Navi 31 silicon, positioned just below the RX 7900 XT.

However, it distinguishes itself with 16GB memory across a 256-bit memory bus, unlike the standard model's 20GB across 320-bit. This GPU, also known as the Golden Rabbit Edition, seems to be a special edition aimed primarily at the Chinese market, and its availability on a global scale is uncertain. The RX 7900 GRE combines the high-end capabilities of AMD's Navi 31 with a memory configuration similar to that of NVIDIA's RTX 4080 or the recently released RTX 4060 Ti model.

The RX 7900 GRE comes equipped with 84 RDNA3 Compute Units, a specification shared with the RX 7900 XT. However, it only includes 16GB of memory across a 256-bit memory bus, as opposed to the standard version's 20GB memory across a 320-bit memory bus.

This particular card seems to be using Sapphire's NITRO+ cooling solution, similar to the NITRO+ Lite models available in markets outside China. It is currently unclear whether it is the Lite edition that lacks a vapor chamber or the original model. The cooling system relies on a solid copper base-plate to dissipate heat from the GPU and memory, rather than a vapor-chamber plate.

Two of the six MCDs are disabled in the "Navi 31" GPU that forms the basis of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE. This modification results in a reduction in the Infinity Cache size to 64 MB and the GDDR6 memory bus width to 256-bit. Despite this, the 5 nm GCD from the RX 7900 XT, containing 5,376 stream processors, 168 AI accelerators, 84 Ray accelerators, 336 TMUs, and 192 ROPs, is retained.

At present, AMD's product line consists of three cards: two are part of the high-end 7900 series, and the RX 7600 represents the other end of the spectrum in terms of performance. The unveiling of the RX 7900 GRE comes at a time when anticipation for AMD's mid-range 7800/7700 series is growing, and there are gaps in the product line filled by the gradually less available Radeon 6800/6900 series.
