Intel will be retiring their Kaby Lake-X-processors, the i5-7640X and i7-7740X where the outsiders on the X299 platform. That means that ten months after introducing them, both quad-core processors have reached its end of life.
The EOL status notification for Kaby Lake-X is mentioned in Intel's product change notification, report our Dutch colleagues from tweakers. I still cannot believe Kaby Lake-X was actually a thing (seemed like a bad joke when it was announced, and still feels like a joke today). Intel's explanation was also so bizarre (that these chips are a gateway to the HEDT platform) that I doubt even hardcore Intel fans believed them. I guess the joke's run its course?
