Intel unveiled a new Core 2 Quad Q9400 processor designed for "embedded" applications. This chip gets seven years of support and is validated with Intel Q45 and Intel 3210 chipsets.

Doug Davis, vice president of Intel's Digital Enterprise Group and general manager of the Embedded and Communications Group announced that Intel will add 7-year extended lifecycle support for the Core 2 Quad Q9400 validated with the Intel Q45 Express and Intel 3210 chipsets. The Q9400 processor is suitable for embedded systems that need the performance of a 45nm processor with four complete execution cores to deliver high performance and responsiveness in multi-threaded and multi-tasking environments, according to the company.

The chip giant also unveiled it plans to release Intel Atom z5xx series processors for embedded applications in Q1 2009, these chips will also have a 7-year long lifecycle.
