Intel 8-core LGA1151 Processor For Z390 Could Be 14 nm Coffee Lake After All
Earlier last week we talked a little about the fact that Intel will be releasing another chipset called Z390 late this year. That is next to Coffee lake 6-core processors on the Z370 platform. Some new information appeared online, and the assumption that Z390 would be for 8-core 10nm Ice Lake products seems invalid.
To step that up, it seems to be the case that intel has an 8-core 14nm Coffee Lake processor in the works. The new information surfaced from an XTU errata log is showing change-log entry that reads out as "[CFL] Added support for 8,2 core,", see below. CFL obviously is short for Coffee Lake.
It would be an interesting move from Intel, as typically they design one desktop processor and base all models off from that one proc. To create an additional processor holding 8-cores is very unusual. If correct, this would be a 8-core/16-threaded part in the mainstream segment, and that would mean serious competition for AMD Ryzen 7.

I know processors take years to develop and most people defend that Intel had these in the works for some time.
I say that's BS: this is 100% a clear reaction to Ryzen and it's productivity value. It may not be a top winner for gaming, but most people like me would prefer to lose 10% in gaming and gain 50 or 100% in multithread performance.
Also, another chipset? Really Intel? Nope, I won't buy anything $hintel knowing I have zero upgrade path. At least I could get a 3770 to replace my 2500k, but currently this is BS.
I'm trying to hold of for 10/7nm parts before pulling the trigger and when I do, I'll sure go for the part that offers better price/performance overall.
Probably when AMD releases Zen2 in 7nm.

I can't see Intel's 8 core being competitive with the Ryzen 7 as of right now even the 7700k is still 40$(cad) more expensive than the 1700.

Yeah Amd did drop a bombshell on all of us pretty-much but in a good way tough,I wont lie I still like to build an intel-based system since my beloved 4790k retired. They are paniking and rushing releases like crazy,You can just tell!...If Zen 2 clocks higher which I hope it will interesting times ahead for sure. The part that pisses me off is they are still trying to charge a price-premium even tough they are clearly losing out to Amd this time around! Assholes.

For desktop? Idk, but they already showed off 10nm cannonlake in a laptop at CES this year.

So god knows when 10 nm will arrive
