Google Launches The OnHub WiFi Router

Google Launches The OnHub WiFi Router

Together with TP-LINK, Google is launching OnHub, a different kind of router for a new way to Wi-Fi. Instead of headaches and spotty connections, OnHub gives you Wi-Fi that’s fast, secure, and easy to use.

OnHub is an AC 1900 router which really says it's a 3x3 802.11ac router that which has a data rate of 1300Mbps on an 802.11ac link and 600Mbps on an 802.11n link. In addition to being a simple and rather normal WiFi router, OnHub also comes with support for the major protocols which will be used by home automation devices, including Bluetooth Smart, Google Brillo/Weave, and IEEE 802.15.4.

--

Many of us keep our router on the floor and out of sight, where it doesn’t work as well. We replaced unruly cords and blinking lights with internal antennas and subtle, useful lighting, so you’ll be happy placing OnHub out in the open, where your router performs its best.

Starts Fast, Stays Fast
During setup, OnHub searches the airwaves and selects the best channel for the fastest connection. A unique antenna design and smart software keep working in the background, automatically adjusting OnHub to avoid interference and keep your network at peak performance. You can even prioritize a device, so that your most important activity — like streaming your favorite show — gets the fastest speed.

OnHub automatically updates with new features and the latest security upgrades, without interrupting your connection. In the future, OnHub can support smart devices that you bring into your home, whether they use Bluetooth® Smart Ready, Weave, or 802.15.4. We also plan to design new OnHub devices with other hardware partners in the future. Stay tuned for news from our second partner, ASUS, later this year.

The OnHub router is available for preorder now from various retailers in the US, and both the blue and black versions cost $199

Only available in blue or black why? Choice of neutral colours and/or a range of colourful options is generally the go.

What if you favorite colour is red (which is apparently is very popular in mountain biking last time I check and found that it was very hard to get a blue mountain bike as they don't sell, blue being my favorite colour).

When most of internet use is porn and Google does "Filter explicit results" by default a happy genius at Google decides to releases its big round back and blue internet routers to be put on display.

Much to expensive for what it is, at that price most people will either get a high end router that suits their needs, or an Apple Airport Extreme; I did the latter and couldn't be happier for it after years of dealing with routers from every maker that never worked properly (each had their own fun problems).

Agree that the router is way over priced for the market it is intended for. The product is for the plug n' play group. That is why the updates are automated, just like win 10 home.
