Gigabyte Launches Brix barebones Based on Kaby Lake-R quad-cores

Gigabyte launches new Brix Mini PCs equipped with Kaby Lake-R generation SoCs, Gigabyte will release four models, two based on a Core i5-8250U and two the Core i7-8550U, procs that are also used in laptops.



The two slim  models are the GB-BRi5-8250 and GB-BRi7-8550, at only 3.5cm in height. Two H-variants are a little higher at roughly 4.7 cm high, the larger versions are a bit thicker as they have the option and room for a 2.5" HDD or SSD, the small ones only get a M.2 2280 SSD as storage option.

All models have room for two DDR4 SO-DIMM memory slots and get an Intel 802.11ac WIFI adapter next to the Gigabit Ethernet jack. The Brix'es all have an HDMI, mini display port and two USB 3.1 one of which is type-c and two USB 3.0. 

The Core i5-8250U and Core i7-855U processors are both quad cores with HyperThreading. The i5 clocks in at 1.6 GHz and with a 3.4 GHz boost. The i7 is a 1.8GHz model with a turbo running to 4GHz (likely on a single thread). Gigabyte has not revealed pricing just yet.
