Motherboard and VGA gigant Gigabyte Technology recently began to include its DualBIOS technology on all its motherboard products. DualBIOS saves a backup copy of the system BIOS in case of malfunction. The technology works automatically and does not require users to control it. The feature involves using two BIOS EEPROM chips to store two copies of the BIOS. In the event of a failure of the first copy, the system starts with the second copy of the BIOS, and attempts to replace the first copy.Gigabyte originally only offered the technology on its high-end motherboards, but has extended the feature to its mid-range and entry-level products hoping to increase its market share.

In other news, Gigabyte will maintain its motherboard shipment guidance of 20 million units for 2009, and will continue to expand its network communication and server orders to drive up profits. The company also expects its handset and notebook businesses to turn profitable after adjusting its product lines and organization in the second half of the year.
