Epic Games releases two upcoming games from Remedy

Remedy signed a deal with Epic to publish Remedy’s next two unannounced games. The games are part of Epic Games’ new, developer-first publishing effort, giving creative freedom and IP ownership to development partners.

Epic Games is mainly known for the Unreal Engine and the Epic Games Store, the company is going into publishing. So far, Epic has only done this in individual cases, now it should become a separate business area. The first three partners are the developer studios Remedy Entertainment (Control), Gen Design (The Last Guardian) and Playdead (Limbo, Inside). Epic Games Publishing wants to fully pre-finance and support the next project of the studios, from salaries to quality assurance to marketing costs. After publication, Epic Games and the respective partner will each receive half of the winnings as soon as the funds provided by Epic Games have been collected.

Back in 2016 Remedy set on its current path of becoming a studio making multiple games and have more, uh, control over their 'destiny'. They want to be in a position where they can create their own games and IPs (and hold onto them) like they are on Control. Epic does not mention exclusivity for its Epic Games Store, but Control did appear exclusively in that game store.

Ultimately, it is our goal to put our development teams in the best position to create and deliver the best game possible for our fans. That’s what this is about. Last time we put ourselves in this position, the result was Control, which has a record 11 BAFTA® Games nominations and got IGN’s Game of the Year, to mention a couple. So that turned out okay!

With Epic, we are teaming up with a fellow developer whom we have a long history with pretty much ever since Remedy was founded. We are excited to be a part of the first Epic Games Publishing announcement with two amazing developers: genDesign and Playdead.

Remedy is working on two multi-platform games for next-generation consoles and PC that will be published by Epic Games. The first project is Remedy’s most ambitious one yet, an AAA multi-platform game already in pre-production. The second is a new, smaller-scale project set in the same franchise. Both games are being developed on Remedy’s proprietary, state-of-the-art Northlight game engine and tools.

Finally, what also served us well was to unveil Control when we had real gameplay to show, solid details to share with you, and the release of the game wasn’t too far off. We want to be as open as possible when showing you our games, but only when we have something meaningful to share that will resonate with our players.

In other words, don’t except any news or details about our Epic published projects for quite a while.

From everybody at Remedy, we thank you for your continued support and the love you’ve shown towards our games. With so many games in the pipeline, we’ve never been as busy as we are now, and we hope you stay along for the ride.

Oh, and it’s our 25th anniversary later this year. Stay tuned…
