Corsair Expands Storage Line with 512 GB SSD

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 02/03/2010 05:19 PM | source: | 0 comment(s)

High-capacity SSDs are few in number due to the tremendous pricetage, none the less Corsair will intro a 512 GB Performance Series rather soon. Very little info is available just yet but it seems that the upcoming storage unit will get a phat 128MB cache memory and will use the 3.5-inch form factor. The device will be built with multi-level cell NAND Flash memory chips and will work on the SATA 3.0 Gbps interface. In addition, the product will come with an aluminum casing.

The read and write speeds of the drive are set at 200MB per second and 240MB per second, respectively. There's speculation that that the drive might not be built with any form of third-party PCB, so there is a chance that the SSD might turn out to be made up of two 256GB Performance Series drives in the RAID configuration. This possibility is suggested by the overall shape of the unit and the presence of two push buttons.

The upcoming Corsair Performance Series 512 SSD is mighty expensive at $1968 or 1400 Euro. We expect to see the unit at CeBIT trade show.
