Buffalo Europe announces series of unmanaged 10GbE network switches

Buffalo Europe announces series of unmanaged 10GbE network switches

Buffalo announces the release of the BS-MP20 series of business switches. The BS-MP20 is 10GbE compatible and is a perfect complement to the TeraStation 5010 line of NAS devices, which has up to 2 native 10GbE ports and is compatible to 2.5, 5 and 10 GbE.

Buffalo is making multi gigabit networking more accessible and affordable by providing reliable, effective solutions that are specifically designed for easy installation and management. The BS-MP20 series provides multi gigabit options of 2.5, 5, and 10 GbE speeds. The BS-MP20 is available in 8-port and 12-port options.

The BS-MP20 switches feature NBASE-T (IEE802.3bz), which means higher data transfer speeds within existing environments. With IEEE 802.3bz compliant, connection speeds at 2.5, 5, and 10 GB/ can be attained. Integrating straight to 10GbE requires most companies to upgrade their cabling to CAT 6A or CAT 7. By using the intermediate speeds of 2.5 or 5 Gb/s businesses can take advantage of increased bandwidth over 1GbE, while putting off cable plant upgrades until it’s more economically feasible.

The plug and play installation means that no additional software or configuration is required. Users can simply plug in their network-ready devices, and the BS-MP20 switch will configure the correct connection. Each port automatically detects and configures the correct connection while full duplex operation provides maximum performance.

The BS-MP20 series features a compact design that can be placed on a desktop, mounted on a wall or in a rack. Rubber feet for desktop use and rails for rack-mounting make the BS-MP20 that much quicker to set up.

Raj Patel, B2B Manager says: “Our switches offer an affordable, quick and easy solution to extend a business network with plug and play installation,

“With speeds of up to 10GbE, eco-minded operation, performance-minded features and a lifetime warranty, Buffalo’s BS-MP20 series of switches is a great way for SMBs to enter the 2.5, 5, and 10GbE market.”

Prices and Availability

The BS-MP series of multi gigabit switches is backed by a lifetime warranty.

  • The BS-MP2008, an 8-port switch, is available now at £649.99
  • The BS-MP2012, a 12-port switch, is available now at £929.99

Still very expensive. Especially for the small companies that these things are targeted to.
Not even talking about home users...

I have two computers, one with an M.2 SSD and the other one with Raid 0 SATA SSDs.
Both are capable of transferring files at over 1000MB/s, but because of the "antique" 1gbps network, I'm still stuck at HDD speeds over the network.

When is 2.5G/5G going to be something you can buy @ Mediamarkt ?
