For the first time ever, the clock speed of a processor (CPU) on an Intel Core i9-13900K has been increased over 9 GHz.

On its way there, the current flagship Intel 13th Gen Core 'Raptor Lake' chip snatched CPU performance world records in benchmarks like PiFast and SuperPi. Intel brags that the 13900K has broken a longstanding CPU overclocking frequency world record for the second time in just three months after its launch.

Coupling the Core i9-13900K with the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 APEX - and a hearty dose of liquid helium - the ASUS overclocking team became the latest to demonstrate Intel's unlocked CPUs' exceptional overclocking performance. ASUS' overclocking team managed to push a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900K CPU to 9.008 GHz, a new feat that comes just a few months after the previous frequency world record, also achieved by the Core i9-13900K, was set. Intel goes on to disclose some of the hardware involved, including the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 APEX, an ASUS premium motherboard with a white PCB that is designed for overclocking. Intel is likely to launch the Core i9-13900KS, an unique variant of the existing Raptor Lake flagship with 24C/32T that will enable boost clocks of up to 6 GHz out of the box.
